I'm still temping at KPMG, and had a phonecall today to say they're going to put me in another department (and in fact another building) once I finish this assignment, i.e. starting either Mon or Tue of next week. This suits me fine; the pay is ok, and the commute is a doddle. Well, from home anyway.... I had a right old nightmare getting in from Seven Sisters this morning! It should have been simple, Victoria line to Kings X, then Thameslink to Blackfriars. Except I had no idea they'd stopped running services from the Kings X Thameslink station (well, I never go there, so why would I?), so, having lost my way, I came out of Kings X mainline station and headed to the Thameslink, only to find signs telling me I couldn't get on the train there, but had to trek all the way over to St Pancras instead. Now, pretty the new station may be, but the UK services run from the far end of the bloody thing, and I was mighty annoyed at lugging my heavy bag that far, and being half an hour late for work... of course, the trains were delayed on top of everything else... I just missed one train, the next one didn't go as far as I needed to, and it was a considerable wait for the delayed train that did.... so no, not in the best of moods when I finally made it into the office!
However, my day wasn't too tough. As said before, I'm not really getting very involved with anything, and what I do have to do doesn't usually take too long, everything seems to be at a relatively relaxed pace. Also, I finally managed to get an appointment with Nina-The-Headdresser, so wandered over to Southwark at 2, huzzah! It's been a really long time since my last cut, and the difference is immense. Oh yes, I also got around to re-bleaching my hair sometime last week, so I finally look decent again. Always good to see Nina, too; like all the best hairdressers, she loves a good gossip, and at least with her, we have mutual acquaintances galore (not something I can say about most hairdressers!) - the London swing dance / vintage scene is small enough for overlap, it seems. Flyers were swapped, oh yes! (B: apparently, we should check out Rockabaret, I'll show you the flyer when I next see you).
I've been a bit... well... 'meh' recently, not quite sure why - as reported elsewhere, the weekend had its ups and downs, and in fact I was very tired for much of it, and slept way more than is usual for me. I have a suspicion I may be fighting off some illness or other, but so far, nothing definite has cropped up, so who knows? I've also been decidedly lacking in organisation and planning for this new year; the calendar has been largely blank, always a worrying state of affairs. However, things are picking up, and people I've contacted to arrange things are slowly getting back to me, so I expect I'll be up to speed again shortly. I was chatting to a colleague earlier about a similar issue, namely, that 'slow' jobs / roles / departments can be really depressing, whereas work with a buzz makes one feel more energetic and productive. Similar applies to my social life; when I'm busy, I get around to arranging things and seeing people, but when I stop, sometimes I stop completely, and it takes a while to get back out of that funk. So that's what my month has been like so far. But as said, change is at hand, huzzah! Also, I'm thinking about progressing some of my personal projects and/or thinking about which ones to pursue, which is also a good thing. Not quite new year's resolutions, more longer-term changes, really.... oh, on which note, has anyone else seen the series in the Independent called the "No Diet Diet"? Although it focuses on diet initially, it promises to touch on other areas in future weeks, e.g. career and relationships and so on. I've really been enjoying what they've brought out so far, and in fact I'm buying stacks of newspapers for their supplements (see, working in the Press Office and having access to all the broadsheets and a few of the tabloids is bad for my wallet!). I wonder whether anyone else is looking into this, and would like to swap experiences?
Finally, and speaking of arranging social stuff... as Benjy posts,
we're thinking of going to AntiChrist in February, is anyone else interested?
There, that'll have to do for ramblings from me for now... I have a list of stuff to get done this evening, since it's the only one this week I'm spending at home, so I'd best get on with it!
