Well, I'm pretty ready for this week to be over. Getting back into the swing of things school-wise has been harder this semester than in the past, but I'm not sure why. I highly doubt it was the two free days, they only prolonged my desperation to return, nor do I think that I actually dislike any of my classes. I'd like to say it's the workload thus far, but that feels like a cop-out. In all fairness to myself, though, it has been a lot considering it's only the second (first and a half?) week of school and I've already got two papers, an observation assignment, and a book to read by Wednesday of next week. Plus everything else that's been on my plate.

The classes, depite the work, seem like they'll all be worth it. My Madness and Reason in 18th Century Fiction class will be interesting, even if I'm beginning to despise Moll Flanders. Literature from the 1700s may not be my cup of tea, but I'll get through it, methinks. Musical Acoustics, or as I call it, Physics for Humanities, is going to be okay. Not hard at all, but the professor is spacy, to say the least. Nothing like a lack of structure in a course to keep you on your toes. Ethnographic Methods, in which I learn almost all there is to know about doing Anthropology (participant observation, interviewing and other exciting fieldwork activities) is going to be a huge amount of work, but I'm really looking forward to it. I have yet to decide what even I'm going to observe for the assignment due Wednesday, though. And last but not least is HIV Pandemic, Poverty and Culture. Terribly interesting topic, but it's a late class and the professor is very soft-spoken, but he's nice. This is the one class I'm a little hesitant about, but I think I'm going to stick with it. The readings for it will be worth it, if nothing else comes of it.

Onto more exciting things though. On Wednesday, just yesterday, Blane and Katie came up to Austin. Apparently his little sister was trying out for a cheerleading squad and they decided to make it into a field trip for themselves. We had a nice dinner of college food (tater-tot casserole) at Melanie's house and then proceeded to Spiderhouse where we conversed muchly and made merry. It was a good time spent with good friends, and I definitely want them to visit more. I need to get out of the blackhole that is Georgetown; I'm turning into a hermit.

In an effort to actually achieve escaping the deadly gravitational force of this place, I'm going caving (spelunking!) this Saturday with the outdoor recreation staff. I went caving and camping last semester as well, but apparently this upcoming trip actually involves crawling through tunnels and getting down and dirty. All I can say is: Bring it on.

I think I'm finally starting to get out of the slump I've found myself in lately. Finally starting to feel satisfied with my courses, getting to spend time with my friends, and just trying to maintain some form of positive attitude has helped a lot. Despite breaking my thumb nail off earlier today. And not just the tip of it either, it took some skin. But now that I think about it, if that's the worst part of my day, then I feel like I can hardly complain.

Now that I've gotten all that out, I'm going to attempt to practice guitar with my nub.
