I am having some trouble with my Apple PowerBook G4 which I bought new in 2003, and which is running OS 10.4.11. It's a touch slow these days, but it still works well enough for most things. Except streaming video. For example, when I try to keep up with The Daily Show, watching a single 21 minute episode takes me over an hour. The audio is okay, though it gets stuttery after about seven minutes and I have to reload to sort it out. The picture, however, is like a really slow slideshow that lags way behind the audio. I've tried sneaky ways of getting around the ads, but they usually don't work, and the ads go even slower than the show itself. YouTube is about the same, but other kinds of video are so stuttery all the way through that they are impossible to watch. I know Netflix is a lost cause.
It's not my network connection because this has been the case with every network I've tried to use regularly over the past few years. It's also nothing to do with how many programs or tabs I have open, because it's the same with just the browser open after a restart. I've tried to find a solution, but nothing has made any difference yet. I'm not an extremely tech-savvy person, so when directions start using technical jargon, they start to lose me. I need a fix of some kind with clear, step-by-step instructions. Anyone know where I should be looking? Or a good forum on which to post this plea for assistance?
What I would really like is a new laptop, but I don't think that's going to be an option anytime soon, so any advice that can get this thing working optimally is much appreciated.
