Thinking about Summer

Mar 29, 2008 23:34

And not just because I am ready for it to be warm now. I've been asked what my plans are, and I realised I didn't really have any. So now I am making some, based on my wishlist of things I want to do.

My thought is to take the mid-July work session off, just like I did last year, and fly to the UK. This means I can fly over on July 3 and back on July 23. During this time, I hope to spend a week at Bamburgh doing *real* archaeology (medieval skellies), see Leonard Cohen in concert at Edinburgh Castle, visit St Andrews, rent a car and tour the Highlands and the Borders. Ambitious? Maybe. Expensive? Without a doubt. But I want to.

I've also been looking at attending Pennsic, which I have heard much of for the past 10 years of my life, but never been to. It turns out that I can attend most of the second week of Pennsic without taking any time off work, which is awesome. The site is only about 2.5 hours from where I am working, which is really convenient and means that I can stay until pretty late on the night of August 6.

All this, assuming I keep to my current job and work schedule. It will be really nice to get away for a bit during the hottest part of the summer.

Tentative Schedule:
July 3-4 - Fly to UK (Manchester?)
July 4-6 - Sheffield?
July 7-12 - Bamburgh?
July 13-16 - Edinburgh?
July 16 - Leonard Cohen at Edinburgh Castle!
July 17-19 - St Andrews?
July 19-22 - Highlands?
July 23 - Fly back

July 24-31 - Work

Aug 1-6 - Pennsic
