I am a hat wearer both by necessity (I need insane amounts of sun protection these days) and by inclination (hats are awesome).
I had originally settled on a birdcage veil as my wedding headgear of choice until, while trying on my front-runner dress and explaining that we wanted the wedding to have a 50s/60s cocktail party feel, my bridesmaid/stylist
durdaana exclaimed "pillbox hat!"
I always thought the pillbox hat was more flight attendant than bridal, but when I got home from the bridal salon,
durdaana had already sent me oodles of pictures of pillbox hats for brides. I have to admit, she may have converted me ...
Obviously not a bridal hat, this is Carla Bruni wearing a pillbox on a trip to England. I like the smaller pillbox and the way she's wearing it back on her head, it's a little more modern. Plus, you've got to give Mme. Sarcozy points for effort, it is tough to out-hat the Queen.
Another non-bridal pillbox, but it's white, so it could easily work, this is Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway at a Nobel Peace Prize ceremony. Even though it's veil-less, it may be my favourite.
Now, a pillbox will clearly not meet my sun protection requirements, but it is so darned cute I am considering telling Padre Mike that we'll need to keep the ceremony nice and short so I can wear cute hats and not worry about burning.
