It's 11:30. I need to get up in 5.5 hours, so I should really get to bed, but I just feel like writing. I've been thinking a lot about posting, but I usually get home after work and pass out until it's time to feed the cats and by that time I forget about what I was going to write about.
Today was a good day. I had lots and lots and lots to do at work, but I got it all organized (I had a List!) and got everything done-- on time and delicious. I made chili-lime chicken for tacos today at work, which were sooo tasty. I made them into a taco salad for lunch minus the tortilla chips because we don't have any or any crispy bowls. I also made/chopped all the toppings for tacos, got the line set up, prepped the chicken noodle soup which is different from the other soups in that we actually cut up and cook the chicken and carrots and celery and noodles in the broth rather than just thawing a pre-made frozen soup. So as I said, there was lots to do. It was a sort of trial day for me, a milestone, because Viyada, my boss, said that she wanted me to try and do everything on my own today to see if I could do it, because once I can do everything by myself without her help, I can take over the store as manager and she can go back to the Skokie store where she was supposed to work in the first place. In the original timeline, and if all goes well, I am supposed to take over the store Feb. 1. So far *knocks on wood* it's going pretty well.
I CAN TOTALLY DO THIS, PEOPLE!
It's exciting and a little scary, because I've never been in charge of an entire restaurant before. In this case, it wouldn't truly be an entire restaurant. Where I work is a sort of breakfast and lunch "deli" in a corporate complex. We serve breakfast and lunch to all the suits (and some jeans and t-shirts) who work in the buildings in the complex: breakfast is from 7-10:30am and consists of bagels, breakfast sandwiches, oatmeal, coffee, etc; lunch is from 11am-2:30pm consists of a salad bar, 2 soups/day, a daily special which we prepare usually mostly from scratch, and a sandwich menu, which also has flatbread pizzas on it. Mondays are pretty crazy hectic because we have to prep the whole place new because we don't keep much over the weekends. It's fun times. The nice part about the job is that since the place closes at 2:30pm, I'm home by 3:45 or 4 at the very latest depending on when we finish cleaning up, and it's pretty much strictly Monday through Friday. Sometimes if there are a lot of catering orders, I go help out at the Skokie store, where they have a bigger and better kitchen, more equipped to do catering orders for lots of people. But mostly I just come home and either have lots of energy from running around all day, or have no energy from running around all day and crash.
In other news, I got a car! It's a 2003 Saturn Ion and it's a manual! I was kinda rusty when I first got in but now I drive like a pro. I can drive basically any car in the world now! Whee! Also, as my friend Cindy said, my friends (mostly) cannot borrow my car.
I have more in my mind, but it will have to wait. I really need to go to sleep.
I wanna hippopotamus for Christmas.
