Man. I really don't want to do this because there's just ssssoooo much to write. I haven't posted an entry in so long because I've just been going nonstop since Christmas time. So here are the highlights beginning with my vacationing in France:
-It was amazing. At first it was really freakin' awkward but I think I managed to weasel my way into their hearts.
-Went skiing in Lyon with Loic in the Alps. How yuppie does that sound? It was totally awesome because I haven't skied in about 6 or 7 years. I was a beast, though, I was so cool! I didn't fall didn't fall until I was standing still in line. Typical. Then later on I fell on my face(Cleansed-like emphasis on "face") and I managed to twist around so that I could get to my skies and unlock them. Problem: I was now upside down and everytime I reached for my ski(the one closest to my face because the other one was far up the mountain and I couldn't reach it) I would slide down about 3 feet. So it got to the point where I could just keep sliding down the mountain until I reached the bottom, OR wait for someone to help me. These 2 French guys came up to me and started speaking in French. I just kinda lay there not quite sure if it was better to be embarassed, twisted and mute, or embarassed, twisted and American. So I just lay there until one of the guys came over and unlatched my ski. The whole thing was good time. Beautiful! I can't tell you how beautiful it was. We were so high we were above the clouds. Amazing.
-Visited a few museums where I made friends with a small boy with golden curls. It's a cute story if you're ever interested, but there's so much more to go I will save it for later. I also went to the Lumiere museum (that's the guy who started this little thing we call cinema). That was cool.
-Christmas Eve was wonderful. The family I was staying with actually got presents for me. I almost started crying. Not cuz I was sad or anything, but because I was so happy. They got me really thoughtful presents too. A Ben Harper CD collection with 3 discs, a scrap book to put my photos in, and a puzzle(that one was a joke because I was having a bit of trouble with a puzzle a few days before and they got me this one so that I could practice). It was amazing.
-Food was brilliant. They eat really good food and they eat a lot of it! I got to be a bit much at times, but I tried my best.
-crap. I'm losing my train of thought…
-Was sad to leave because they were all so sweet and we had some good times. I gave each of the boys a hug before I left(not the parents, though, cuz they probably would've freaked out) and they took it, but you can tell it's more of an American thing. It was cute to see the "uhhh…what's going on?" look on their face.
NEW YEARS
-Spent New Years with Erin and we watched Big Ben strick midnight. THAT was sweet. There were people climbing up the street lights completely pissed. I can't even describe to you how many people there were. People were streaming in from every corner and stretched as far as the eye could see. Erin and I held a modest toast at midnight and videotaped the crazay people around us.
-Erin, Mike S. and I went to Mme. Tussaud's and it was pretty sweet. Everyone should go. We walked into the first room and we saw one or two wax figures but then more and more people began to leave and we realized that half the room was made up of these real life, wax figures! It was awesome! I HAD a dozen pics from this place, but I'll get into why that is now past tense in a moment.
WHY MY PICTURES CAN BE REFERED TO AS A THING OF THE PAST:
-My hard drive failed on my computer. My baby broke. I was typing a paper(isn't that always how it goes?) and I hear a sort of pin ball dropping in the left corner of my computer's base. I knew right away that the sound of somthing loose in my computer was not good. I called the comp usa guys and they said that my hard drive had failed and that all of my material was gone forever. I kind of wanted a bit more closure than that so he gave me an oh-my-god-what-the-hell-do-i-do-now? number for mac users with apple care protection. The guy I talked to at once began cursing the guy who told me that my hard drive was dead and that there was nothing I could do. I actually managed to get my computer to turn on again and saved a few files (like all the papers I've ever written since I got my computer, including the one I had been working on when my computer crashed). The next day I took my computer to the apple demi-gods on regent street off of oxford circus. It's a mad cool store, my friends. I went with Mike, because in the midst of this turmoil Mike came to visit, and the guy said that because I'm still under warranty (for only a few more months, but thank god otherwise I'da been screwed!) I only had to pay 35 quid for the attempted software transfer. Without apple care the whole thing would've cost me 200 pounds, but now for 60 buck I'm practically getting a new unit! Basically I have faith that the apple demi-gods of regent street can transfer my software onto my new hard drive (or at least part of my software) and I will have my computer back in about a month or so. How freakin' fortunate was that? Now in terms of the paper I had been working on before the incident, let's just say that trying to write a paper without a computer is a bit difficult, but I made it through and I turned it in this morning.
MIKE AND ME
-Mike's now gone again and I'm sad. But we had a sweet-ass time together
-Went to Berlin for a few days and stayed in an amazing hostel run by a man named John who spoke very good English and played Blood Omen2 late into the night on his lap top. Mike and I have established that our friend Tristram's perfect job will be to run a hostel such as this. I can see it now, and it is glorious.
-The beds weren't made that well and both Mike and I fell through them a couple of times so if you ever go to "John's cozy little oriental hostel" in Berlin, and I strongly suggest you do, request to sleep on the mats.
-Stayed out WAY too late one night. We basically walked around Berlin with a bottle of wine singing Aretha Franklin(poorly I might add, in comparison to the great diva that is). And then we found an all night pub and stayed there until about 3 or half past and proceeded to guess our way home because the metro had stopped and we had to walk it. We got back around 4:30 in the morning after a lively adventure that included several "ladies of the evening" and a prision that came out of no where. It was fun.
-When we got back we went to several shows. One was "The Erotica Project" which is co-written by the woman who wrote "The Secretary" which is a movie I highly suggest(unless you are my parents or my parent's friends, so Mrs. Armstrong and Nancy, this film's a no-no!). It was in a venue that's set up over a pub. It wasn't that great of a play and the acting wasn't that good but I'm not going to say that in class this week because my teacher directed it. We also saw "The Woman In Black" and that was the SCARIEST thing I've ever seen! When we got back to my flat I told Mike that I was glad he was here otherwise I'd have to sleep with the light on. He said, "Yeah. Me too!" I also took Mike to see "The Phantom of the Opera." I'm fully aware that I'm a dork, but I don't care what you think! Our seats were terrible but you could still see everything. The lead girl was soooo bad, but the phantom was good and that's all that matters.
Alright. I think that's it. There's lots more to tell about each trip and adventure, but I only have so much patience and so much space. My parents come this weekend and that will be nice because then I don't have to feel like I need to be anyone's tour guide and I can just chill with my family. Okay. I promise to try to keep these entries more frequent so that you don't have to deal with this madness every single time, but I think I've also promised this before which goes to show what a promise from me is worth…anywayz, I love you all and I'll talk to you later!
