HHHEEEEELLLLLLOOOOOO EVERYONE!
This will be my last entry for an entire week. "Now why might that be, Liz?" You're probably asking yourselves at this moment. Well, my friends, I'll tell you…I'M GOING TO PARIS AND ROME!!!!! Tomorrow after noon my friends and I leave this drizzly(yet oh-so-awesome)country to catch a flight to France to do all kinds of dumb touristy stuff! I've never been further away than Great Britain so this is all new to me! The only one of us (our party consists of Ben, Leslie and Matt) who speaks a lick of French is Matt and he doesn't speak that much. So it'll be interesting to say the least! Then on Thursday we wake up early to hope onto our puddle-jumper plane to fly to Rome where my roomie promised to use her mad tourguide skills to take us around! I'm soooo excited! But I'll let you all know how it goes as soon as I get back!
On a completely different note, my dad was here for the weekend! It was a lot of fun to see someone from home again. He left this morning very very early and I'm kinda homesick now that he's gone. But he came down on Friday and we did a bunch of walking around and we had dinner in a pub and then went to see Chicago. I had never seen it before, but it was pretty cool! On Saturday we got up early (painfully early if you as a college student like myself) and got a cup of coffee before we did dorky touristy stuff. We went to the Tower of London and were given a tour by a beefeater who was absolutely hillarious! We then walked around for a bit and saw the crown jewels and I kept pointing out to my dad that any one of these pieces would feed a small country in Africa. Now, let me just say that the crown jewels look fake to me. There is a diamond known as the first star of Africa and it is the largest diamond in the world. It's about the size of a lemon? maybe? but it looks fake. The more extravagant the pieces the more fake they looked. It was kinda funny. Anyways. After that my dad went to the Victoria and Albert museum. It wasn't bad, I kind of wish they had elaborated on their descriptions of the objects they had. They had a bunch of stuff in there but for the most part they never really explained why the pieces were important. I mean it's one thing to say that it's a picture of a saint but it's quite another to say why this person's a saint and why the artist chose to paint them. But all this mediocrity was blown away by the tapestries that I saw. They were absolutely beautiful. I can't even describe how cool they were. One of them was only 100 years newer than the others but it was so much more vibrant, almost shining, than the others were and I thought if only 100 had cause the others to become more dull, than they must had been incredibly vibrant and glowing when they were first made. I dont' think that was very well worded, but hopefully you get the idea. Okay, so lastly my dad and I had dinner in China town and went to see We Will Rock You. It was awesome! The music, of course being queen, was awesome and the singers were fantastic. We had such a good time! Okay, well I have a crap load of stuff to do today so I must dash. I'll fill you all in when I come back from PARIS AND ROME!!! YEY!
