Slow cookers are great. They are useful for so much more than soup and stew. I have a 12 hour slow cooker recipe book which is far more useful than the standard 8 hour ones since we're usually out of the house a lot longer than 8 hours. That drumstick recipe I have that we might use for the event is a slow cooker one. Get a variety of recipe books and if you don't already have a slow cooker try to see if there is one with a timer on it for start time. I would love to get something like that.

As for the exercise, I know it's nice to be able to get to work with Ray, but really, you don't need to go the whole way with him. If you want to get the exercise you got before from walking, than keep doing it whether he wants to or not. Go most of the way together and meet in the office. With the hours you're already out of the house and the house work you have when you get home you just aren't going to have enough time to really do anything else. Only other option I can see is to get the gym membership close to your office and go every day at lunch. But even with that I would still do the walk, at least, in.

The only thing if I walk in and he doesn't it means that we're leaving at different times, since it's a 20-25 min walk and only a 10-15 min streetcar ride... Maybe I'll give it a try Tuesday and see how it goes.
