I've been so busy every night since Jas and Mark touched down on Perth, just hanging out and chilling with them. Am enjoying hanging out with Noe Zin, Jas and Mark lots! Am not as close to Yuhui but I think they're company arrived just in time before the boredom of being alone crept in.
On Thursday night, we headed down to Jus burgers after a short afternoon of shopping. Quite a small place but the burgers were pretty good! Shared a 270g beef + foie gras burger with jas worked out to be about 12AUD per person cos jas and I shared a burger that was huge!
Then headed back to Trinity for a round of Krispy Kremes and Bananagrams!
MY WINNING BANANAGRAM
Then the next morning, Auntie Maggie invited us over to her place for breakfast cos Suelynn baked bread and muffins. Had lots of laughs and great chat over breakfast with all the girls and Auntie Maggie, from accounting to politics to NJC times.
Then after that we met up with Mark Koh at UWA to head down to the city of Subiaco. Its a quaint little place with lanes of little shop houses with fanatasic almond crossiants. I chanced upon a silver charm shop and chatted with the owner and learnt that he handcrafted these charms himself and talked to him about the process, etc. I love talking to the locals and to just hear more about what they do, how they do it,etc. It just gives me a real connection to someone in Perth rather than just being a purchasing tourist. So I HAD to get something cos I wanted to remember the place.
After that we headed off for dinner and THE MOST FANTASTIC ITALIAN RESTAURANT EVERRRR - CIAO ITALIA!!!! We alighted off at Perth Zoo and had to take a 45min walk all the way to our food but the walk was so worth it. Its one of the rare times that I feel happy to pay for the food and feel like I almost had a steal. Imagine that hearty italian accordian music piping through the speakers and the cheeky tease of the waiters who speak so heartily with that teasing italian charm! I love that place!!
The tortilla pasta was fantastic! Its the first time I had this kind of pasta - its a pasta that's pretty big and its like a little pocket that is stuffed with meat. The pizza was so so the standard pepperoni and sundried tomatos and the chilli mussels were such a huge and generous portion. We were totally stuffed that we ALMOST decided to give the tiramisu a miss but thank goodness Jas was insistent enough and convinced Mark and I to just have a bite. In the end, it was PURE HEAVEN. Its the BEST tiramisu I've ever tasted, no wonder they use words like orgasmic for food. haha! Too bad I don't have close ups of the pasta, pizza and mussels cos they were out of focus cos somehow it got switched to manual focus and I was too busy to notice.
Luckily we reached the place early, around 6pm. When we left at about 7.30pm there was a long queue snaking outside the place - probably worse too cos its a Friday night. Seems like Aussies aren't as different as Singaporeans - they both queue for GOOD FOOD! I'd totally queue for this again, without a doubt!!
When we left, I thanked the waiters who waited on our table and told them I really enjoyed the meal, was greeted with a light touch around the waist and a 'gracias, gracias'. Ended up paying about 24AUD per person which is SUCH A STEAL, I really feel like I should be paying more than that for such a wonderful spread and quality.
So we cabbed back to UWA and to cut a long story short, we were stranded for a while at UWA so here's UWA at night. Quite lovely! I don't know why Jas thought it was really creepy.
That was the end of my Friday! Am going to put my weekend on another post since this was long enough already. I can't wait to just go back to Ciao Italia again before I leave. Probably this time just with Mark though since the girls are flying on Monday! Might get him to ask his cousin along so we can all share and order more.
