Play That Funky Music...

It's looking like our +30*C days might be over. Sad face.

I had a yoga date yesterday with two friends over at Yoga Centre on Grosvenor. I'd never been there before. It's a nice studio on a beautiful street. Looking around, I suspect I was the youngest of everyone in class so I was getting judgey that it was going to be a boring, mellow session given the amount of seniors in the room. However, the session was more for one of my friends who had a bad yoga experience, not for me. I was pleasantly surprised! While it wasn't as athletic as I'm used to, it was still quite good and I'm feeling it a bit today in my abdomen. After that, we went for crepes and just hung out. It was lovely! I'm hoping we'll do something like that again in the future, but maybe not a weekend morning since we were all dragging our asses. Saturday is when I sleep in as much as possible unless I'm planning on going to the farmers' market.

I had a very dark short story creep into my brain last week. It's erotically charged and yet has cannibalism and demonic reference. Hot. I wrote a loose draft on paper and I immediately felt better to get it out...and yet, I want to perfect it. I worry about sharing it in a public forum like this for a couple of reasons: (a) I'm shy of sharing my creative writing; and (b) I have some concerns of what people might think of me for creating something like that. Both reasons I really need to just get over. Besides, no one may think it's as good as I do and I may never actually finish it anyway.

Andrew and I had dinner with his family this past week at Pineridge Hollow to celebrate his dad's birthday. I like Andrew's family, but I think it's fair to say that his mom is a little on the inconsiderate side when it comes to me being vegan. I absolutely should not be catered to when it comes to people choosing where to eat for a special occasion - I'm the first to admit that. However, when you're cutting up an obviously non-vegan birthday cake, it's pretty rude to say to me, "Do you want some?" Um...no. Surely you must know it's a matter of I can't have it. I digress. So, Andrew gave me the heads up of where we were going so I could preemptively look at the menu. Nothing on it remotely being vegan. Since there was plenty of time, I figured I'd send them an e-mail to see if their chef would be able to accommodate a vegan soy-free meal for me. They did! I was so pleased! The plan originally was for a grilled portobello (I hate mushrooms, but I was willing to try) with sauteed spinach and a lovely black bean and corn salsa. When we arrived, I let the waiter know that I had made arrangements and he was excited to let me know that the meal plan changed because the buns were not vegan. Instead, the chef made me chickpea patties with a wild rice pilaf. It was SO good! Easily the best vegan meal I had at a restaurant that doesn't cater to vegans. It was really nice to be able to go to a nice restaurant with family without having to order fries or a measly salad, looking on woefully as everyone eats their abundant plates...or worse, having to eat beforehand or plan to get something to eat afterward. I wolfed my meal down as it was really, really delicious. I was sure to e-mail Pineridge Hollow and let them know how happy I was with the meal. Maybe with positive reinforcement like that, they'll consider putting a vegan option or two on their menu.
