I'm feeling quite positive and optimistic today. I got my first real look at my job. It looks interesting and doable. Electrophoresis is not nearly as complicated as I was afraid it would be. I will be injecting dyed DNA into what's basically a thin layer of jell-o. Then, I connect electricity to the concoction to make the DNA move. Finally, I'll take a digital picture of the streaks the DNA leaves. Mad science! Hopefully, I will enjoy it as much as I think I will. Maybe I'll be competent at it to boot (I have every confidence that I will be good at my job)! I think I'll even like the early shift. Getting home from work by 4 in the afternoon is going to have it's advantages.
Also, it's official. My like of Portland (and to a lesser extent, myself) is directly connected to my employment. I'm feeling better about my life right now than I have in months. I'm looking forward to tomorrow, which hasn't happened on a weeknight since I can't remember when. It's nice to feel happy, productive, and competent again. Hope this trend continues!
Tune in tomorrow for more adventures in Gel Electrophoresis.
