So, the past couple of mornings, I have been watching kid's shows. No, I don't know why either. Actually, I was very favorably impressed. I'd forgotten what a smart show Sesame Street is. Grover used the phrase "double entente," for example. And Cookie Monster did a segment on how to tell if things are alive (Does it grow? Does it breathe? Does it eat?). Not to mention that Sesame Street has always been all about diversity and tolerance, both of which I approve of.
Speaking of diversity and kids shows, I have to mention the other kids show I fell in love with. I's called
"Ni-hao Kai-lan" and it's about a 5 and 3/4 year old Chinese American girl. It focuses on teamwork and thinking of others. I'm always very happy to see a strong female character. It's especially awesome when the character is from an ethnic group that is often overlooked in the media. It also doesn't hurt my feelings that the art style is obviously inspired by San Rio (Everyone knows how I adore Hello Kitty). I also enjoy the Mandarin lessons the show provides.
