Love the beach, hate the economy

So, just got back last night from a weekend at Seaside with Harrison and a bunch of friends (M&R, Katie, Kyle, and Ashley). It was a BLAST. IT was really nice to be out of the apartment  (the first time since we've been here that the two of us together have had anything like a vacation). Seaside is a great little town that reminds me a lot of Black Mountain. Well, if you stuck Black Mountain by the ocean. And gave it lots of good seafood.  Being in a tourist town out of season is an odd feeling, but one which made me feel oddly at home. I took a few pictures, and will post some of them on my photo blog later.
So, we were feeling good, about to get back on top of things financially, and then today happened. I got home and Harrison was already here. I asked why, He asaked me to come have a seat . It didn't take much to figure out what was wrong. Harrison's company (which had been going through layoffs anyway) had apparently just lost a really big customer. They had to lay someone off, and it was him. There were 9 other layoffs in the company, as well. And everyone left has no raise this year and is having their hours cut. The company itself will probably be closed by June. But, he got a decent severance package, and is eligible fot unemployment, and we'll have tax refund soon. So, we're OK for now. It's just really freakin' scary because the company I work for isn't doing so well, either. I just weathered what I hope is the only round of layoffs at my company, but I don't know for sure. So, wish Harrison luck in finding a new position, and wish Obama luck on fixing the economy. Bah.
