Third Entry

Had another good day today. Work went smooth, so I could not complain. I even got paid!! I have my money split into two accounts. One is here, and the other is in the states. Nothing has hit the stateside account yet, but they have yet to open.

I don’t think I will ever take a lunch with me. They have a cafeteria a short walk from work. Today I had a huge pile of rice and chicken, two rolls and a can of soda. It came to $2.86, and I was completely full when I was done eating. We have a little snack bar at work. Sodas, candy bars and cookies are all 1SR (26 cents) each. Can’t beat the prices on food over here. A 1.5-liter of bottled water is 65 cents. All the water that comes out of the facet here is trucked in and put into huge tanks. Not the best thing to be drinking.

My houseboy just arrived. He is doing my dishes. I wonder if I can take him back to the states. He cleans everything, irons the clothes and takes care of the yard. Cost me about 150SR ($39) a month. Life is so rough here.

Oh, did you all know that by law, we are allowed 30 sick days a year here? I know two guys who used every one of theirs last year. Unreal. However, there is no maternity leave here. Why? Well, women aren’t allowed to work. Hell, they have to ride in the backs of pick-ups. The sheep are allowed to ride up front. No lie.

I went to the commissary yesterday, and what did they have but flour tortillas! Too cool! I am making Burritos like a fool. However, we can only get vegetarian refried beans here. The normal kind must have a bit of pork in them. That is quite the no no here. I want to make some homemade salsa. I am waiting to see if my kids can get me some solandro seeds. Lots of people have gardens. Their houseboys take care of them. The ground here is super rich for growing things.

Catch you all later.
