My first 2 weeks of school have been interesting. The commute sucks, but I knew that. Still, I can't give up my apartment because it's better and cheaper than anything north of here. My Sentra died last Friday, which was convenient because I had already decided to put her down that day. Now I've got a 98 Saturn SL1. Yay stick!

Classes range from useless to annoying to incredibly difficult. My TA duties are much easier than I expected. Mostly it involves me just sitting in the tutoring room attempting to remain conscious. I have a discussion section of freshmen and one with upper-classmen. The frosh are so little and scared! The upper-classmen are cool, they liked their first class with me today. Both groups are for the same Stats 100 class, but all the freshmen got stuck in the Friday 9am section since the sophomores and juniors scooped up all the Monday noon seats. There is actually one freshman in the monday section, he's a manager of the basketball team so he gets special treatment. I had to laugh.

The people I work with are wonderful. The professors are surprisingly supportive and approachable. They also have a lot of experience and are very perceptive of the needs of the grad students. I was assigned a mentor, a 3rd year student, who has given me so much valuable advice on getting through the system. The only MAJOR annoyances are the colloquia, which are scheduled for 4pm on mondays and wednesdays. My classes end at noon and 1 on those days, so I have to hang around for 3 or 4 hours to go the these boring lectures. Everyone knows they're boring and useless but they've been required for so long that no one can change the way it works. Professors and students alike sleep through them.

I have a very interesting set of friends at school. My roommates Rohini and Jaydip are both from India and are incredibly nice. One of them is really sexy too. First time I've ever considered an Indian woman "very attractive". A bunch of us went out for lunch today, and I've got a tennis match tomorrow :). I missed the first drinking night, but I'm told there will be many more. Seems that everyone in the department is fond of vodka.

Had a great weekend with Chelsea, we hiked some trails near my house, ate some good food (her treat, Thanks!!!) and watched a LOT of tennis. Saw Kim Clijsters (Miss Flexible) defeat Mary Pierce (Ms. Cheating Bitch) and Roger Federer (Mr. Smooth) dispose of Andre Agassi (Mr. 35) in the US Open finals.

Now for the really really really weird news, and quite likely the impetus for my writing this post...
Some of you remember Amy, my ex-girlfriend of 3 years. She sent me an email yesterday, from her UConn email account! I hadn't heard anything about her in years, but I'm not that surprised she's back in school. The kicker? She hasn't confirmed this yet, but if she's in the English Department then we both work in the same building! She asked me to have coffee with her tomorrow. My curiosity forced me to accept. If it goes like the time she invited me for cheesecake after our first breakup, I'll be re-bangin' that by noon.

;)
