So, I'm back in the school system I guess. Silly new "tax" they slapped on calling it a "bus fee". Ya right. Tax. I mean, how can they figure it's going to cost $200 or $400 per student to ride the bus. Especially since they don't really know how many students will ride and how many buses would need to run?? How can you determine some random number. You know what they're not telling you? Well, take it to the next step.. They had no idea how much the bus fee would actually raise.
But in my estimation, they did know how much money they wanted to have come in to the whole department. And taking the 80/20 law of ratios, they figured this would be a good figure to start with. That's what I think, anyway. Now, if they haven't raised enough money to pay for the usual 35 buses, and need to now run only 27 (as noted in the Lowell Sun), then let's see...8 buses short. wow, that should mean that the buses that are running are going to have longer routes to cover. My, my, my, did they forget to tell that part?
The young'uns will be standing at their bus stops earlier for a longer ride to school, not to mention will be taking much longer to get home. Oh ! Now what about the students who will now be picked up? The parking lots really aren't designed for mega shuttle/cab pick up. Should be pretty, with tempers flaring because you can't pull out due to the kids being unloaded around you, and you've got to get to work. The good thing in the case of the high school is, all the parking pass fees will ensure that the WHOLE lot is plowed and maintained for such fun. No, wait, I forgot, they're not taking the parking fees and applying the money to the high school. It goes to the general school fund. What a great idea! The teens and their parents can pay for incidentals needed anywhere in the schools. Nice deal. Not to mention that some of those parents are also paying the bus fee too.
Hmm.. can't drop them off earlier to beat the rush either, sorry. That's an extra tax..I mean, extra fee. Crazy. Where did the money go? How is it the monies previously taken in falls so short now, in one year. After layoffs and cutbacks. Why is it?
Whatever. It's still pretty neat to be back in the fish pool. I just miss the high school kids, they made it fun for me.
Can't rant freely here- that does stink. But there's always my own personal handwritten journal for that stuff. A part of the world that's totally mine and private.
