MYSPACE POLITICAL POSTINGS ARE STUPID!!!

Oct 21, 2007 15:23

So, I probably offended a friend, but I am over it. See what I posted as a bulletin in response to a friend's bulletin.

My BULLETIN Post - To all Political Posters
I think it is great that people can use myspace and other mediums to post their opinions, thoughts, rants, etc. I have no problem with free speech or with people speaking their mind...but I DO have a problem with people posting information created by some random person without checking to make sure that what is being said is ACCURATE.

I think if you have a problem with something then by all means create a post. I would hope that you would also provide some links or some other forms of evidence (especially for some kind of political issue).

I think by copying and reposting someone else's thoughts and ideas not only makes you appear lazy, but it also gives off the impression that you yourself are without the intellect to come up with your own unique thoughts.

Now you can all be pissed off, but at least I posted my opinion that is my own and not someone else's and as for my evidence...check some of the posts on your bulletin and ask yourself...Where is this coming from? Who wrote it? Where is the evidence to back up their claims?

The most recent offense comes from a post about the Star Spangled Banner. I have never responded to any of these postings, but why should allow information be spread as truth if it is indeed incorrect. Here is the posting and my response follows immediately:

##STAR SPANGLED BANNER POST##
After hearing they want to sing OUR
National Anthem in Spanish ... enough is Too much!
NEVER did they sing it in Italian, Japanese, Polish, Irish-Celtic, German,
Portuguese, Greek, French, or any other language because of immigra-
tion. It was written by Francis Scott Key and should be sung word for
word the way it was written. The news broadcasts gave a translation
that's NOT even close. Sorry if this offends anyone ...
NOT ME, I DON'T CARE IF YOU ARE OFFENDED
but this is my country.
Let me make this perfectly clear!
THIS IS MY COUNTRY!
And, because I make this statement
DOES NOT mean I'm against immigration!!!
YOU ARE WELCOME HERE IN MY COUNTRY.
Welcome to come through like everyone else has.
Get a sponsor!
Get a place to lay your head!
Get a job!
Live by OUR rules!
Pay YOUR taxes!
And
LEARN THE LANGUAGE LIKE ALL OTHER
IMMIGRANTS HAVE IN THE PAST!!!
AND PLEASE DON'T DEMAND THAT WE HAND OVER OUR
LIFETIME SAVINGS OF SOCIAL SECURITY FUNDS TO YOU
TO MAKE UP FOR ''YOUR'' LOSSES.
If you don't want to forward this for fear of offending someone,
then YOU'RE PART OF THE PROBLEM!
When will AMERICAN'S STOP giving away THEIR RIGHTS???
We've gone so far the other way ... bent over backwards not to
offend anyone. But it seems no one cares about the AMERICAN
that's being offended!
WAKE UP America!!!

##Response to Post##
Actually, the star spangled banner was first translated in GERMAN in 1861. Plus the song was not adopted as the official anthem of the US until 1931 after many other groups had already had immigrated and were force to assimilate into society. There are several other translations of the song including FRENCH, LATIN, YIDDISH, and SAMOAN. The anthem was already translated into SPANISH in 1919. So, I think before you post some hateful rant, you should get your facts straight.
