more canadian open madness...long post
On Saturday morning Sarah joined me and Ilissa at the West 49 Cdn Open. We got there to find out that once again what we were all scheduled to do had been changed. Me and Sarah go to do security in the vip lounge. It was pretty sweet we sat at a table just past one of the lounge entrances and just made sure that people who walked in had the right credentials/laminate. Only media people and sponsors were allowed in, no athletes or team managers which kinda sucked. They decided to split half of the lounge into 19+ so me and Sarah ended up having to work the all ages side. We had a perfect view of the course from the lounge so I filmed some of the comp. They also put out food and drinks so we had some. The Dc team manager yelled at us because we wouldn't let him and Greg Myers in even though we told them there was food downstairs for them in the Skaters Cafe.
Ilissa had to work upstaris in the entrance for the boxes, which is shitty cause you're in a hallway and don't see the comp at all. Then she got to do security in the vip seating area where Grant waved to her cause he thought she was me. lol Of course she being the nice kid she is, she waved back. After me and Sarah were walking around a a nice French boy asked us where he could get some food cause there was no food or lounge for the workers. This nice boy was working in the Premium tent selling merch. I brought him up to the Vip lounge and told the kids who replaced me and Sar that he was with me. I took care of the Premium boy and got him some free food and drinks.
Later on in the basement doesn't Grant not walk in and pass right by me and say hi to Ilissa and i yell out it's me, but he didn't hear. lol So I saw him a few times on Sat but didn't talk to him and he kept saying hi to Ilissa. I saw Matt from Hustler on Saturday. I also saw John from C1rca and we were talking about Grant somehow and he said that they're gonna trun him pro soon, which is really good for him. I watched the rest of the comp and taped quite a bit of it too. The men's street qualifying rounds were good cause everyone was in them. I saw some vert qualifying too which was good. Street Best trick was also good too cause they did it on 4 different obstacles and gave out anywhere from $20-$100 for each good trick rather than a huge amount of money to just one person.I think that's a good way to do best trick cause then alot of ppl get money. Grant won $80 for doing 3 tricks, nollie cab and 2 others most likely nollie something or others. After best trick they showed the DC Movie delexue edition. We stayed to watched that even though I own it.
After the movie we went downtown and went to see Katie at her new place. It was good to see her and Dave, who was also there. Then we went to b-Side for the West 49 after party. The host of the party was this guy who works for West49 and was nice enough to let us in for free to the party cause I had my lanyard even though it was a volunteer one. I dunno if h eknew it was a volunteer one or not but I'm pretty sure we were supposed to pay to get in. There was no one there when we got there cause it was so early. Eventually more people showed but definately not as many athletes as I though that would have been there. I ended up talking to Malcolm Watson, a skater from Cali, for a while. Matt from Hustler came and he too, walks up to Ilissa and says hi to her and Sarah's like wrong one. It was funny. Matt from Full Tilt, Rob (skate for cancer guy), Big Black (Rob Dyrdek's security guard) and Dave Lapchuck were also there. We talked to some guys from New Market who work at the store out there. Dave showed up just before we left and I wanted to ask him were Grant was but I was to scared too. On our way out the host saw us and was like you should stay to win a free deck and I was like well can we just have it? He made us guess his age and Sarah guessed closest so he gave her the deck.
On Sunday morning, after only 5 hours of sleep, me and Ilissa went back to the comp. They made us hand out wristband to people who were comming in just for today and didn't have weekend passes. It was alright but we couldn't see the comp and missed the women's semi's and finals. I went for my lunch and watched some men's semis and came back and the guy who replaced me was gone. So I wacthed some more of the comp and went to see Ilissa doing security by the entrance to the course. I made the mistake finding Beth, the volleys head, and asking her if i had to still work, cause i had about 3 hrs left. She made me go up and do security for the private boxes which sucked. I sat there and read a skate mag the whole time and left for a while and then came back. No one really came up to the boxes cept a few ppl from Billabong. I saw Grant and told him that I though it was funny that all day yesterday he kept saying hi to my twin. It was funny but it sucked for me. Then I got moved againm and got to do security by the floor entance with Ilissa. We got to end early so we watched and I taped some of the street semis.
We met up with Sarah who was working the vip seating area right in front of the vert ramp, so we sat in there and watched vert finals. Bucky, PLG and Sandro Dias were really good. Sandro pulled off a 900 and everyone went crazy. I went to the Premium/Ezekiel booth to visit the boy I fed the other day. The premium merch was all boy stuff and too big so I got a nice Ezekiel tank top for $15, when it should have been $25. Sarah had to work up in the boxes earlier with the same girl I did and she told her I was "snooty", who does she think she is? bitch. (I'm sorry but you don't put me in athlete reg and vip lounge and then expect me to be happy with private boxes.) Anways after vert Sarah still had to work so Ilissa stayed with her, while I went to go tape the men's finals. During Mark Appleyard's run I get a call from Sarah telling me she's on the vert ramp with the awards. Of course I was super jealous. After the men's finals I went to tape the street awards and got Sarah in the background haha. Everyone was on the floor for the awards and I just had to be down there too. As volunteers we weren't allowed on the floor but some kids were on. So I walked on from one of the two entraces. After the awards I found Sarah and Ilissa and we hung out onm the basement cause everyone was down there. Then we went to the volunteer party, where on the way the bitch that called me snooty was talking to my French Premium boy for like 15 mins, bitch! At the party me and Ilissa won Dakine bags that say West 49 Open on them. They didn't give us any food but we got beer tickets. So we went to Swiss Chalet for dinner cause we all wanted fries and gravy and I especailly love them with messy chicken sandwiches. It was a good weekend for the most part. Going to the auction and party on Friday would definately have made it better though. There's always next year and you know I'll be there.
