star light, star bright.....
i wish i could've seen the stars tonight.
it would've have been nice to look up and see that endless blanket of velvety blackness pierced through by those shimmering points that Pumbaa so delicately described as "big balls of gas burning billions of miles away." to look up and see Orion in all his larger-than-life glory, or to see the Big Dipper pointing to the North Star, pointing the way home.
to me the stars have always meant safety and security. i know that a lot of people, when confronted with that void beyond our planet, feel small and insignificant. not me. i look at the stars and i can't help but marvel at it all. to know that i am a part of this fantastic universe is nothing short of awe inspiring.
i worked at a summer camp for a few years, and it was pretty much in the middle of nowhere. there was a picnic table outside of my cabin, and i would spend hours lying on it just staring up. the comets were amazing, and the sky was so clear i could track satellites across the sky. i would just lie there and look at the stars and think about whatever was on my mind. it was like the clarity of the sky worked its way into my mind.
