Producers of “The Last Airbender” plan to adapt “Snow Crash"

Says racebending.com:

How will this all play out in the adaptation of Snow Crash, a 1992 novel about a futuristic Los Angeles featuring several characters of color? The main character is hacker and pizza delivery guy Hiro Protagonist, who is of mixed Asian and African American descent. Other characters include a street smart skateboarder named Yours Truly (Y.T.), Hiro’s ex-girlfriend Juanita Marquez, and the antagonist Raven, who is of Aleut descent. Themes of racism and sexism intersect the text and the characters’ experiences.
The sad thing is that I was excited about this news when I first heard about it several days ago. Then I read another article about who the producers were and thought to myself, "Self, how could you have been naive enough to get excited about a film starring a non-white guy? You know this never ends well."

Fingers crossed that Kennedy and Marshall either (a) have a belated epiphany about why whitewashing non-white roles is bad, (b) find it harder to justify whitewashing a real life setting than a fantasy, or (c) are scared that the internet will eat them if they pull a The Last Airbender again. Yeah, I know, still being naive. But I would so love to be proven wrong about my apprehensions!
