... but I got my latest bloodwork results back, and as of today I am officially (easing off) my diet! I still need to be careful not to overdo it on the refined sugars/carbs, especially since 'tis the season for sanctioned gluttony, but this makes the prospect of two months away from home (and easy control of what I eat) much less stressful. I think what I'll do is stick to the diet as much as possible when I eat at home (sorry,
xannoside) but not let myself fret over what I eat when I'm out or at friends' places. Then I'll see how I feel once I've recovered from the trip in January and tweak accordingly. I probably will stick to parts of the diet long-term, because a side effect of eating low carb/dairy-free/yeast free is that you eat a lot less crap and filler by default.
I've also started seeing my old therapist again. Not much time to work on things before leaving, but just having those two hours to talk to somebody has helped a bit.
Fandom:
'Tis also trailer season, apparently:
-
The Hunger Games. This actually looks pretty good, although I'm still not thrilled with the whitewashed casting of the Seam-affiliated characters. The nice thing about The Last Airbender is that it looked so terrible from the get go I felt absolutely no conflict between my desire for more A:TLA and my refusal to validate the racebending with my money. (I have now seen about half of it on an airplane.)

The Amazing Spider-Man: Already complained about this on Tumblr, but yeah. Still with the wrong kind of daddy issues, still with the lack of quipping (although
htbthomas tells me there were funny bits in the preview clips shown at I-forget-which-con). Also, why does this need to be set in high school, again?
To jump tracks slightly, how weird is it that when I first saw Garfield in The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus I thought, “Wow, he would be a dead-on Peter Parker if he can do an American accent - shame it’ll never happen!” And now that he’s actually been cast the visuals no longer match up to my mental image at all, but Tobey Maguire, who I always felt was a bit of an endearing mismatch lookswise, now seems to fit perfectly? Brains and opinions are funny things.
On a whim, I decided to rewatch the trailer for
Spider-Man (2002) as a comparison, and honestly -- while there are some dated presentational tropes based on what was trendy in trailers a decade ago, the older trailer is still snappier and more compelling than the new one. I was a casual Spidey fan at best when I saw the former and instantly put Spider-Man on my must-see list; I’m a diehard Spidey fan now and even though I love the two leads and the main actor was actually my favorite fancast for the character, the most I can muster is a kind of timid enthusiasm.
