Ugh. Four hours of sleep and a nine and a half hour workday don't mix. The Briefs were super-awesome, even if our interview was super-short. The whole show last night was weird. None of the band members seemed to know about the interview except Dan, who was waiting for his cousin from KC to show up, so he couldn't do it. Eventually, the whole band was around the tape recorder, however.
Unfortunately, that lasted all of two minutes before Left Alone started playing. So, we warpped up the interview, and I went downstairs to watch Left Alone's set, which was damn good. Kinda sorry I missed them at Warped Tour last year, because they have this whole ska / pop / punk / mod vibe. As a matter of fact, I went and got their cd at Hastings today after work (could've bought it from them, but Hastings has had three used copies for $5.99 for weeks).
The Briefs came out and rocked it. They played "Destroy the USA", "Gettin' Hit On at the Bank" and "Orange Alert" back-to-back-to-back. "Stuck On You" was in the set, too. Insane amounts of energy, kids pogoing like nuts, and all I could think of was the fact that I still had to walk home and be up for work at 4am. Buzzkill, to say the least.
Plus, I missed the Horrorpops. AGAIN. The show was running about 45 minutes late, and even with half an hour wasted talking to Charlie and Joe outside, I never heard chord one. To be fair, Rob Holland had told me that they were short a guitarist and dancer, and their set was gonna be short anyhow.
One interview left to do (which will heavily augmented by Briefs-suggested embarassing questions) with the Riverboat Gamblers next week, and then I am DONE. After typing up all this shit, it's probably all going to get recorded into the computer and posted in
nuthouseblog for greater entertainment. My plan is to start doing this with any band I go see and just podcast the damn thing for greater dispersal.
Tonight... early to bed. As soon as dinner is in my belly, and
the_lucky_nun and I cart the new dresser upstairs for its utilization as a linen chest, I'm crawling into bed and watching tv until i pass out.
