It's funny how things work out sometimes. Case in point - I spent the better part of yesterday all worried about getting a promo reel and aircheck put together for KPR, that it completely clouded the actual, present-day stuff that I've got going for me.
Jason Harper and
rudeboyzach over at the Pitch have faith in my abilities, and keep giving me work. Deron is so trusting of my abilities, his plan to buy the bakery from Bob and JoAnn is pretty much contingent on me remaining on.
It's a tough decision. I like doing radio, I really do. The fact of the matter, tho', is that I wouldn't do radio if I didn't get paid. I mean, doing a two-hour a week show is one thing, but there is no way I'd volunteer over at KKFI or something. Writing, tho' - yeah, I'd do that for free. I do, and have, and will continue to do so. It's better when a check shows up in the mail, sure, but I enjoy writing to the point where I've been paying to do it (with hosting / domain name fees) for the better part of the past four years.
Deron only wants me to commit to the bakery for five years, with a reevaluation after that. I'm sorely tempted. I don't know if I'm the sort of person who could commit to some sort of 9-5, M-F schedule. I love the bakery, and I love the opportunities it would offer. The plan is for five years, both of us making the same pay, with four weeks' vacation each year. It would work. And work well, actually. I'd have time to freelance, I'd stay in shape, and lord knows I'm good at it.
What do you guys think? Having to choose between two things that are this good isn't a choice that happens that often.
