I very briefly mentioned in my last entry something about zombies. I'd like to take a look at zombies.
Zombies are a rather new part of recent litature, though the notion of zombies has been around for many many centuries. Until about the mid 1800s they were mostly just mentioned in religious texts. We've all seen at least 1 zombie movie. Why do zombies scare us? It cant possibly be the movies themselves, as zombies just arent one of those really scary horror movie monsters. I think its the unnaturalness of zombies. The horror laid within the fact that these things were suppose to be dead. Buried under the ground and at peace. Not rotting and walking around. Then the 'new' zombies came out. Ones like in 28 Days Later and Resident Evil. Faster zombies, and perhaps... intelligent zombies. If, in the middle of a zombie apocolpyse, your only real life would be hell bent on surviving. If you arent careful, you will become a zombie. And I dont know very many people who want to become the walking dead.
Which brings me to life today. Our economy sucks. Of course we arent steeped in poverty like some other nations. But it is something we havent really been use to until the last 10-15 years. Wal-mart is chalked full of zombies. Fast food resturants are too. Temp agencies. I've worked at McD's twice. I am fairly certain that place sucks the soul out of you! If you think I am exageratting try working there for more then 3 months. A person cannot live on their own right now unless they have a good job. Working 40 hours a week at McD's and I still would barely make enough to pay the bills. Working 50 hours a week might get the bills paid and leave a little for household stuff (TP, tampons, soap, etc). One could feed ok at 60 hours a week. This is, of course, factoring in rent, electric, water, some sort of phone, car, and car insurance. Ramen noddles suddenly become your best friend. Unless you get state benefits (which is a whole new breed of zombie you have to deal with, one who has a pen and the power to either help or hinder you but you can be almost assured they wont be nice either way). And heaven forbid you have to see a doctor! Because if you have a state health card and thats the only way you can see a doctor they usually arent too nice either. The point I am trying to make is that there are many many people simply bent on surviving right now. And some of them seem to have been turned in zombies!
People are worn out, stressed out, and some even lack the ability to cry any more. Depression rates are through the roof. Others around them want to help but cant because they cant even provide for themselves. The result? Alot of tired ass people who you see every day staring blankly at their surroundings.
why would people fear these new real zmobies? These zombies are breathing. They can talk. They wont try to eat you. Because these zombies are empty and alone. As human beings most of us dont want to be empty and alone. We want to see results from what we do. Saddly there are very little results occuring right now in the ordinary every day life. Some people seem to walk around like empty husks of their former selves.
Anyway all this makes sense in my head.
