Classic Scifi?

A friend, who is ten years younger, brought up the Matrix when I was talking about "Classic Sci-fi". I'm trying to educate him and realized I grew up watching a lot of movies he's never heard of. I was going to say Flight of the Navigator but I see you already have it here. What about Cocoon?

I totally agree with The Abyss and Short Circuit too. (Even the sequel, haha.)

Westworld with Yul Brinner (maybe not traditionally sci-fi, but ... awesome nonetheless). And the Andromeda Strain. Maybe Altered States too.
