A friend, who is ten years younger, brought up the Matrix when I was talking about "Classic Sci-fi". I'm trying to educate him and realized I grew up watching a lot of movies he's never heard of. He's seen Star Wars, Planet of the Apes, Back to the Future, and E.T. and that's about it.
We've been "trading" movies, meaning I agree to watch a movie he loves and he agrees to watch a "classic".
This week's exchange: I watch "Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World" and he's watching "the Princess Bride".
Next week is "Waterboy" vs. "Willow"
Any way, he asked for a list of classic sci-fi and I realized many of my favorites might not be "classic" so much as ones I liked growing up.
What he's seen:
Star Wars (all of them)
Back to the Future
E.T.
The Thing
What I think he should see:
The Abyss (my fave)
The Day the Earth Stood Still (original)
2001: A Space Odyssey
Blade Runner
Starman
Krull (I know, but I loved it! and wish to torture him w/bad special FX)
Alien/Aliens
Mad Max
Tron (the original)
Short Circuit
Batteries Not Included
Explorers
the Last Starfighter
Flight of the Navigator
Planet of the Apes (the original)
Any suggestions?
