Yesterday was a total adventure.
First my mom called me and had me go to a second lunch thing at Tony Romas. (I had a grilled cheese SW with soup). Then we went shopping at HomeSense/Winners (do we have those in Atlanta?). I like that store. It kind of reminds me of a Ross except it has really cool home stuff. I bought some Italian soaps and some really cool paper covered decorative boxes. I chose the ones with flowers on them. They are adorable and useful for storage.
We went home for a break from shopping and then right back out to Walmart again. I had a $25 gift card from my birthday and it only works in Canada. I bought two beaded tanktops (with lace edges) and some really nice bath supplies. I also bought a SUPER cute pair of wedge sandals. My mom bought some cute sandals too! Those Earth Shoes that are awesomely comfortable and only sold at Wallyworld. I have two pairs at home and they last forever, they don't get worn out really bad and they also look stylish for sandals.
She wanted to see if she could find a half size bigger at another Walmart though. We headed over to Parkland Mall and couldn't even find that shoe style there X_x. But I was crashing and that gave us an opportunity to explore the mall. There is a really cute shirt store which sells shirts that are perfect for Dragoncon and partying. I also went into Cleo and found some awesome work clothing O_o but I didn't get it because a cami, shirt and jacket were going to run me $120 on sale and I already have bought like $400 worth of clothing on my trip. But I didn't pass up some Canadian souvenirs at the dollar store. I was tempted to get some for my friends but they were so tacky and cheap (aka keychains, mugs, mini flags, shot glasses) that I figured someone might be thinking, "WTF, you were really thinking hard about me weren't you? You shopped at a dollar store...." I don't mind cheap junk but I wouldn't inflict that on anyone else without knowing.
When we got home we watched Bridge to Terabithia (*sob*) and then started watching an older comedy called "Overboard" with Goldie Hawn and her husband. A really awesome thunderstorm started up and kind of interrupted us with hail, lightning and wind. I pulled the plants in. The rain got so bad that you couldn't see across the street. This was not good.....the basement leaks really bad if the rain gets too heavy.
Sure enough, we ran down there and an inch of water was creeping toward the stairs O_o Mom yelled, "GRAB SOME TOWELS!!!" Like that was going to help. And it didn't. So we brought out the snow shovels and started shoveling it toward a drain.
Clearly when they built this home, the builder was one of those cookie cutter a-holes that didn't even follow code with a slope to a drain or a sump pump. And he left a square of dirt in the utility closet where rain could eventually seep up. W.T.F. But no time to curse the laziness of home builders past and present (as we all know so well *glare*). We both started shoveling water and realized the rain was still coming in bad, so our work was pointless. It was starting to creep up into my bedroom but didn't make it. It did however seep along the baseboards and leave some damp spots in my room. But I got an idea and I pulled the baseboards off the wall and directed the inflowing water to the drain with a makeshift channel. That worked! Granted, the water was really bad and flooded the whole back side of the basement before I came up with the idea but.... this was better than having it flood all the way into my bedroom.
After about 30 min we went back down and the rain had stopped flooding in from under the floor. I spent the next hour helping my mom shovel water into the drain from the saturated carpet. We got 90% of it out but the carpet definitely has that cold squish to it. I have a tension headache today too from a nice knot in my shoulder. Mom rented a wet dry vac and that will be my job next. I told her she'll owe me another $100 for the house work LOLOLOL j/k
The great flood! 1-2inches of water
My makeshift channels. They directed the water nicely.
Check out that drain!
Almost to my bedroom O_o
