And now, homework

Mar 16, 2009 19:58

I've arranged for my official transcripts to be delivered.  I've asked a few people to write letters of reference for me.  I've signed up for the Praxis II, and have forwarded my SAT and ACT scores to get out of the Praxis I.

And now, so that I will have sympathy for my students, I have a mess of homework to finish in the next couple months, mostly centered around the official guide to the program I've enrolled in and a classroom visit.  I've even started the first bit - reading an essay on the achievement gaps that have exploded in the last couple of decades and writing my reactions and reflections on the article.  Frankly, the statistics are shocking, and not just the gaps:  according to the article only 1 in 12 white students studied could read and obtain information from the science page of the newspaper.

So I'm writing down my horror at these stats, prepping to pick up my textbook, and starting to get my ducks in a row...
