About 20 years ago I was riding through a controlled intersection, and there was a car in the oncoming left-turn lane. I saw they were about to make the turn in directly in my path, made unambiguous eye contact with the driver and held out my left hand in stop motion. The driver shook his head and made the turn anyway. I swerved to my left and clipped his fender, careening me across the oncoming traffic lane (there were no cars), and came to halt in a gas station on the corner. After that, I've just never ridden in traffic. I can be both right and dead.

In a related story, I have no compunction about making forceful contact with a vehicle that is violating my space as either a pedestrian or bicyclist. I've done this in the past and been confronted by drivers, but this question has instantly ended the conversation. "Tell you what, if you are so very certain that you are correct, why don't you call the police and we'll find out which one of us gets charged with striking a pedestrian with a vehicle?"

All of that said: I admire you composure and conviction. Keep it up.
