We went to an Indonesian restaurant in the New Farm suburb of Brisbane today by the name of Jakarta. The food was great, even if the staff were never present. Since we ordered a banquet, I can't recall every dish served, but Mel's recommendation that we go was certainly apt. Our main favourite was tahu goreng (fried tofu) which came with this fantastic satay sauce. They also had a small array of Indonesian snackfoods at the front counter.
We spent the whole time telling (and retelling) stories of our old life in Indonesia. Naturally, the nostalgia came boiling up. We talked about restaurants we used to eat at. Being conned by our parents into eating butter-fried frogs' legs. The time we drove from Jakarta to Bali. Some of this stuff I even have photos for.
I think going back to Jakarta would be very hard for me. The place has changed, and all the people I still feel connected to have gone. Still, it's one year til the tenth anniversary of my graduation. I should do something, even if it's on my own.
