Macbook

For a while now, i've been looking into getting a new computer, since my trusty* Dell laptop is more than 5 years old at this point. Previously, i was trying to find a laptop that would be capable of running current games (read: a laptop with a decent video chipset). Eventually, i was made to realize that this was a bad plan, and for the same price as a high end laptop I could get a midrange laptop and a high-end desktop. I've decided that Phase 1 will involve purchasing a MacBook this month, while Phase II can wait until next year.

So: my current plan is to get the low end MacBook. I may bump the HD from 80 to 120, and will certainly buy after-market RAM to get my system up to 2 gigs. [Note: if you have an older MacBook for which 2x512 chips is an improvement, let me know).

My remaining question: Is there an appreciable difference between getting the Leopard upgrade for $10 and waiting for it to be preinstalled?

Edit: Yes on AppleCare, no on .mac
