I've been having swordfighting lessons, which are freaking AWESOME, and am working on medieval garb of my own; sadly I could not get it ready in time for the Newcomers' Feast last night and had to wear loaner garb. I had so much fun, and I am in awe of all their costumes. I only hope I can make my own equally awesome costumes one day. :D

I have some connections from my textiles pals. They're luverley, that lot, even the ones who have really weird ideas on historic costuming ;-) But yeah, the good stuff is really good! If anyone is doing 16th century Venetian over there, you'd look gorgeous in that. And there are a lot of good books for teaching yourself patterning and sewing, too, let me know if you need some recs to see what you can grab from the library or Amazon :-)

XD There were quite a few in Venetian dress, but I'm not sure I can afford the material right now. XD I'm actually thinking of maybe going with a Middle Eastern persona, but I'm definitely going to mix it up a bit with garb because I love so many cultures and clothing styles so much; I plan to do a Viking dress soon and maybe a Venetian dress much later.

IT WAS AWESOME. 8D And yes, I am really loving my swordfighting training. :D We do heavy combat, with a sword and shield, and also rapier. I prefer the former though and am hoping to be authorised for actual combat soon (we have tournaments and wars and such).

Hahaha, aww. I was a bit lonely and awkward at first, but everyone here is amazingly nice and I'm really loving the SCA. I also joined the uni's Scifi/Fantasy club and the Queer Department, so I've got two fun clubrooms to spend my breaks in. :D There are still moments when I'm disoriented or frustrated by how different something is, or miss my friends and family back home, but overall my days are pretty full and I'm enjoying it here. And the campus is absolutely beautiful, I really love it.

It was so much fun! Just looking at the photos makes me happy again. Some women turned up in amazing rich detailed 16th century Venetian garb and such, and they looked so amazing; sadly I didn't take photos of them. But yeah, I am in awe of everyone's garb. :D
