pft, just tell me if I'm spamming you too much axemeaquestion July 13 2010, 05:04:09 UTC
Well, guess where this newly christened assistant producer (again) was stuck tonight? It was a different station, much smaller and WAY less pay, and Rochelle was back to that same job she'd been stuck in trying to achieve the title of 'producer', again, but a job was a job around here. While not exactly ENTHUSIASTIC about the prospect of handing out coffee to the people with her dream job again, look where trying to give a good first impression ending you up. Barely making it to a safe place in time for the evening.

So here she was.

That guy sounded vaguely familiar, though.

"Something like that."

Seemed like she was just as inclined to conversation as he was.

He smiled a little crookedly. "It was this or my empty apartment. What are you drinking?"

Normally she'd be a little more for conversation if she wasn't tired, but it was worth a try...

"This or the freaks outside for me. Scotch. You?"

"Piss, from the taste of it," he replied, motioning to the beer in front of him. "You get stranded here when the sirens went off?"

Rochelle paused, before leaning over and giving over a mock sniff.

"Smells like it too."

But she gives a teasing grin before she leans back, maybe looking a little embarassed now.

"It's stupid, actually. Got off a little too late working."

"Best I can do on this salary," he said with a shrug. "At least it's alcoholic."

He eyed her sidelong and smirked. "Well, happens to the best of us. You're not gonna be stuck here all night, are you?"

"Mm," She shrugged as well. "I don't blame you. I get a job for a neutral news program and the pay is more crap than it'd be back home."

The thought of this is actually a little worrying, and it shows a bit. But she tries to perk up at his next question.

"I think I'm going to be. If I knew I'd get stranded I'd have brought my gun, but taking an AK to your first day at work isn't the greatest impression ever."

Despite this she makes an 'eugh' noise at the thought of being here all night. At least it wasn't a bad place, but she wouldn't have minded a bed.

"I'm a custodian at a grade school," he replied. "Honest work. But it pays what you might expect." He was grateful for it, though, and grateful to have found work at all under the circumstances.

Billy seemed to perk with interest when she mentioned her gun. He set down his beer and eyed her again.

"You have an AK?" he asked, sounding impressed. "Shit. Where'd you pick up that kind of firepower?"

"AK and an axe from back home. Would you believe the 'zombie apocalypse' excuse?" Rochelle had noticed others besides her, Zoey, Ellis, and Nick seemed to have the zombie apocalypse excuse too.

Wait a moment. The 'custodian at a grade school' thing got her attention, and when she seriously studied him for a moment she actually recognized...

"... Billy?"

It'd been about a week since they talked, but she was hard-pressed to completely forget a face.

"You'd be surprised about the zombie apocalypse thing," Billy said- but then recognized her voice again for the first time.

"Wait. Oh, yeah. Uh... Rochelle, wasn't it?" He smirked again. "Good to meet you in person."

Alright, she immediately perked up at the revelation of this.

"Billy!" She grinned. "It's good to meet you!"

Well, if that didn't make him less awkward. "How you been?" he asked. "Sounds like you settled in okay if you've got a job and everything."

Whoops. "Ah... good," She nods. "Something like that. Crap job for now until I gotta get out of that apartment, I guess."

"I think I'm good for a while at mine," he replied. "The job, I mean, not the apartment. I got a couple days left after the delay for that earthquake."

He paused for another swig of his beer, awful as it was. "You gonna try to be a news anchor or something?"

"I think got a week or two left..." She muses. "At least enough to scrap some money together to find a new apartment."

"Not exactly. I was a producer back home."

"Oh, huh." He didn't want to admit he didn't know much about what a producer did with regards to a news station. "Well, you must be good at it to find the same job here."
