MAIN AREA OF THE SHOP

[The door opens to let in a rather tired looking young woman and her dog. There's a suspicious smear of blood under her nose, like it had been recently wiped away, and faint burns visible on her cheek and hands. The dog's head is hanging, not looking any better than his mistress.]

[ Kakashi is coming out from the back with another box of supplies in his hands. A small brown, black, and white puppy trots behind him and freezes in his tracks when he sees the large dog. And starts barking.

Kakashi nods at Temari. He can't see the blood or burns from where he's standing. ]

Looks like you got here in one piece.

[ He calls over to her, as he brings the box over to one of the side shelves and sets it down. ]

We managed.

[Gives Pocchi a glance, but she isn't paying the noisy puppy a lot of attention. She's more occupied with getting her own beast settled so he can lay down.]

What's the status here? Who's on their way? Are you focusing on this location, or providing search and rescue teams as quickly as possible?

I have a number of employees coming in as well as a few parties who've expressed interest in helping. Once they're here, I can give up this location and begin planning for search and rescue.

[ Kakashi notices the blood now, and the burns. He frowns a little, but doesn't comment just yet on them. There will be time later for him to talk to her about what happened. ]

We have a room set up for any injured civilians and for those who want to sleep. There's enough food and water to last us at least forty-eight hours. If I can avoid getting into the bunker below, I'd like to do that.

[ For obvious reasons. ]

But we can probably get some supplies from down there.

There were plenty of buildings that were damaged enough that I suspect when Darkness falls, we'll be having a lot of attacks on our hands. So we need to finish setting up here and begin planning a strategy. Shikamaru should be here soon enough...

Shikamaru can handle strategy, I'll take lead on one of the teams to get the injured moved to safety. Do we know the status of the clinics to get medical attention for anyone that needs it immediately?

[She notices the blood under her nose and sighs, heading behind the counter to find a box of tissue. It's not enough to faze her in the slightest, it's just mildly annoying.]

We could move supplies up from the bunker now, to reduce the chances that it will be noticed when we have civilians crawling all over the place.

[ Kakashi frowns slightly at the blood, then glances down as Pocchi continues to bark at Drifter. ]

Pocchi.

[ A sharp warning. The puppy stops barking but continues to growl. Kakashi sighs. ]

You know, when you said you were by a lake, I didn't realize you were talking about that lake.

[ He starts off lightly. He's concerned about the fact that she exposed herself to whatever poison is out there. ]

[temper_tempest]

[Glances up, dabbing at her nose. She's honestly more concerned about her dog than herself, since her dog can't tell her what's wrong.]

Drifter had energy to spare, so we went for a long walk. We were on our way to the lake when the earthquake hit. I should be glad that I got a late start, it would probably be worse if I had been walking right next to it.

[ura_no_ura]

[ Kakashi sighs and walks over to Drifter, then crouches down to get a better look at him, extending his hand to let Drifter sniff at him so he knows that Kakashi won't hurt him. ]

You really should be more careful in the future...

[ He says lightly, but there is concern there in his tone. If Temari had been close enough to have been doused with enough water -- what would have happened? He remembers just how badly Amaterasu was hurting from digging around in the ground near the lake. ]

We can't afford to lose you.

[ He adds, then, glancing up at her. ]

[She stares at him for a second, warring between surprise and indignation. Surprise that he seems concerned, and indignant that he's implying that she was careless.]

I'm not some genin that can't manage to retrieve a stray pet. I was in the wrong place at the wrong time, yes, but I don't see how this is a case of being careless. Combatants can be replaced, anyway.

You're injured.

[ He points this out and lifts a hand up to gently pet Drifter's nape a bit. He's got some burns that Kakashi thinks he can probably treat here. ]

And so is your dog.

[ A beat, as he looks back down at the dog. ]

If you hadn't decided to walk to the lake, this wouldn't have happened. That lake is dangerous.

[ He gets up now, and turns towards some medical supplies. ]

I'm not your kage, so it isn't my place to tell you what you did was right or wrong. But I am responsible for your safety right now, and if you had been closer to that lake and were seriously injured... I'm not sure if your kage would be very happy to hear about it.

You're not just a shinobi, Temari.

[ He finally says, looking at her directly with a roll of gauze in his hand. ]

You're also a person.

[If she looked any more pissed, he could probably accuse her of mutiny. It's not the first time someone has brought up Drifter and the way she managed him, and she's starting to really dislike that.]

People walk by that lake everyday without so much as a scratch. Are you suggesting I should never cross the street, either? In case some idiot in a truck runs a red and I don't see it in time? The fact I'm breathing means I can get injured. With all due respect, sir, get over it.

[ura_no_ura]

[ Yeah, Kakashi isn't having any of this. His eye narrows slightly, voice changing to grow a little more serious. ]

You know very well there are negative side effects from contact with the lake, Temari. I shouldn't have to remind you about that.

[ This is hardly about how he deals with her dog, but about how she deals with her own safety. ]

Yet you consciously chose to compromise your own safety and health despite knowing that fact.

If you would prefer that I don't demonstrate my concern for your safety and well being in the future, very well.

[ To that end, he holds out the gauze in his hand for her to take. ]

I trust that you know how to take care of yourself. But I don't like seeing you injured when it could have been prevented.

[ His voice is softer here. ]

[temper_tempest]

[Being chastised like some academy student is doing nothing for her mood. She takes the offered gauze, jaw tight while she convinces herself not to lay into Kakashi. He's the acting Kage, and she has to show respect.]

You're acting like I went for a swim, rather than walking through a busy park in the middle of the day. There was no --

[Gritting her teeth.]

Understood, sir.

[ Women. They always seem to take things the wrong way.

Kakashi just sighs and cants his head slightly. ]

There's some burn ointment in the kit.

[ He nods over to it. ]

Let me know if you need anything... we'll probably reconvene in the back after Shikamaru gets here to plan.

[temper_tempest]

[Temari consciously shakes the tension out of her shoulders before moving over to the kit to pick up the ointment, dabbing it on the backs of her hands. She's just not used to being in this position, the lower ranking shinobi following orders, and having her only constant companion injured has her very much on edge.]

Fine. I'll try to find out if the animal hospital is still functional, since I need to get him checked out as soon as possible.
