this event, which tells you everything you need to know.
Nothing in particular had happened that whole week, nothing really out of the ordinary. Not in the Tower apartments. Just the usual activities of people coming and going, and despite a raise in security due to the threats, there was little to stop a pair in dark coats from entering the building.
Well, that, and the fact that short of a power giving them away, the two of them were invisible to the cameras, a blip in space. Which, honestly, was how they liked it. The anonymity of an invisibility power was second to none.
They split off in a stairwell, just out of sight. Both of them had bags slung over their shoulders and grim expressions, so intent on their actions that they didn't speak. The young woman laced their hands together for a moment before turning and walking to the elevator, and the man turning and going without another look back.
Half an hour later, a small group of explosions tore through the tower apartments, shaking the building and setting off every alarm in the area.
When the smoke started to clear, there were gaping holes in the Tower Apartments, showing girders and wide fractured places where glass should have been, the breaks between concrete spitting fire into the air. Tower Two, it seemed, had taken most of the damage, looking gutted, while Tower One was pockmarked, it's windows shattered, as it hadn't been the source of the blasts.
By the time the police and the fire department arrived on scene, it was only minutes before the Sirens, and a bad situation got worse as the darkness settled in on the already ravaged building.
