Summary: Introspection while watching the fairgrounds burn.

Black Mask stands at the window, detonator in hand, watching the explosions light up the Darkness. The armed henchmen behind him are silent, trained well enough to know to keep their mouths shut when the boss is admiring his handiwork.
Roman smiles. The Ferris Wheel blown to smithereens. The headless, flaming carousel horses strewn across dead grass. All of the destruction...glorious.
God, he loves C-4.
He's always enjoyed watching things burn. He isn't some kind of freak like Firefly who sees sexual visions in the flames. For Roman Sionis, burning things down is an act he finds spiritually cleansing. Relaxing. One that signifies change. He's always seen himself as the great destroyer. He had, after all, carved his original mask from his father's ebony casket in that great act of revenge, imbuing it with the destructive power of death.
A new city has changed nothing.
He would, of course, have preferred not to waste his resources on Joker, but he has an image to protect, a message to send: no one attacks Black Mask and gets away with it.
The only thing he regrets is not being close enough to smell the destruction.
Well, that, and not being entirely sure if Joker's disgusting corpse is currently burning up, but there are always sacrifices made in times of war.
And make no mistake: this is war.
The orange glow illuminates his newly regenerated face and Roman's lips curl to bare his teeth. He's reminiscing on all the major fires of his past, from his parents' screams as they burned alive in their house, to Gotham during that hot summer night...it makes him feel alive.
Empowered.
Once the fire department shows up, he'll casually head back to his townhouse in Sector 1 for a drink and some quiet time with his prisoner; the dancing flames are giving him some inspiration and he hasn't quite tested the extent of Jack's regenerative powers against fire.
Torture tonight.
Aggressive expansion tomorrow.
Everything according to plan.
