Some humor here to fend off fear, and I'm a little more lost, oh dear

Who: thethingiforgot and batmanmecha
When: December 7th, after morning sirens
Where: Siren's Port General Hospital
Summary: Duo goes to the hospital to visit Ion after a scary night, but arrives to something unexpected
Warnings: Mild swearing from Duo

The morning sirens went off to a cloudy, miserable day in the port, and Duo slung outside looking very much like a kicked puppy. Bundled in a sweatshirt and a jacket, scarf and gloves, he huddled with his shoulders hunched and eyes to the ground. He hadn't slept. He couldn't sleep. He kept seeing those damn blank eyes staring at him, seeing that... thing lunging at him with every intent of making him it's next meal.

When he walked out, the viscera was all but a memory, gone with the sirens and the rising of the sun behind the clouds. It didn't make him feel any more safe, though, and his feet were instinctively moving faster than usual to get him to point A to point B before something else could go wrong that day.

Luck just didn't seem to be on his side at all, though. As soon as he entered the hospital he felt something was off. Going to Ion's room found it empty, which wasn't entirely unusual. He quickly went to the nurse's station for that wing and asked if he would be back soon.

"Oh, he's going to surgery," the nurse said with a bewildered blink, as if she expected Duo to know that.

"What?"

"They're taking him right now," she said, pointing behind him where they were moving a gurney down the hallway. He turned in time to see Ion look up and wave to him.

"... damnit," Duo swore, putting a hand over his face, resiting the urge to scream and kick the wall in frustration.

"He's going to be a while. It's probably better if you go home for now. We can call you with an update."

"... no. I'll wait."

"Are you sure?"

"Yeah."

Stepping away from the counter, he shuffled to the waiting area and dropped in to a seat with a sigh, looking at the clock on the wall. 6:43 am.

It was going to be a very long day.

ion, duo maxwell
