"It's gotta be close- just up here!"

Joe was enthusiastic, because this was more than his usual adventure, day to day between jobs. He was also still riding high off the thrill of the long night behind him, Pickles' DIY punk concert, which had been...an experience, to say the least.

His ears still ached and throbbed a little from the memory of bass echoing against them, and so his voice was both unconsciously louder and a bit raspier than usual.

This also left him a little more tired than usual, but would Joe Fieldman ever admit to being off his game? Never. Especially not in front of Ahiru, who he'd promised to help and protect through this task they now shared, ridding the island of witches.

So he shook off the over-exhaustion and the sting in his eyes by taking two steps at a time, past framed prints of famous paintings, impressionistic girls in puffy tutus.

"What a weird place for a witch to put a barrier, huh?" He swung from the bannister a little, when he reached a turn in the landing, facing Kyubey and Ahiru partway while they were still half a staircase below. "I hope we don't find any girls were target here."

As he started descending down the steps quicker, she increased her pace, trying not to make him wait too long. While he was fighting off exhaustion, she was trying to move past her own hesitance; despite the fact that he'd described his last fight with her, she still didn't have a good idea of what to expect. If he had done it alone before, it was sure to be fine, especially with two people, but...

"Maybe it made it here because a lot of people come here." She said, looking up thoughtfully. "Let's just hope everyone here is still okay! All the boys too."

Despite how utterly daft Ahiru was more often than not (and really, Kyubey couldn't judge her - for a duck she was particularly intelligent) she was right about one thing. "You're right Ahiru, Witches tend to form barriers in areas where many people may come together." Down the steps he hopped, placing his front paws against the door to the studio.

"Be alert, both of you. Past this door, the barrier might trigger."

"And when it triggers, the whole world'll go weird, right?" Joe questions, glancing down at Kyubey.

It doesn't make him hesitate much, though. His hand grasps the door handle firmly, and he wrenches it open.

"C'mon out, Witch! We're here for you!"

(Yeah, well. So much for subtlety with cavalier replicas.)

At Kyubey's words, she tenses, preparing herself for anything that might be inside the door. Whatever it was, there was nothing to be scared of - Joe would protect the both of them no matter what happened. Even so, her heart pounded in her chest.

Though she was trying to prepare herself for whatever was about to happen, she wasn't prepared for Joe throwing the door open so quickly. Her hand flies out to his arm to stop him from being so forceful, but it's too late to make much of an impact.

"Joe!"
