The quiet of the morning was neatly ruined by the sound of yet another person crashing into the dirt mound in the center of the dilapidated field. A mass of bone-white spikes can bee seen protruding out of the dust before they seemingly fade away. They'd done their job in protecting the body in the landing, but it still takes several long moments before the petite young man - dressed only in a white hospital tunic and black shorts, yet clutching a pile of now dusty black clothes -pushes shakily to his feet. He wavers a bit and stumbles a bit more before he finally seems to catch his balance ( ... )

On almost the other side of sector four, the new arrival had triggered a response in another resident of the Port. Frau's head snapped up, his eyes wide in shock. There was one soul he knew all too well. A soul whose destiny was almost entwined with his own. His light. For months now that light had felt so very far away to the point where Frau was afraid it would disappear completely. Now that small pinprick of light had flared up just a short distance from him.

"Teito."

Before Frau could even consider the fact that there was more to it than just Teito, he was out the door and heading toward the baseball diamond. The fact that Teito was here was far more important than thinking about the slight off feeling to the kid's light.

Frau skidded to a halt at the baseball diamond with a small puff of dust. Even as the dust settled and he got his first look at the kid in months, Frau's shock and disbelief remained. All he could do was gape at Teito, wide eyed and speechless. The damn brat really as here.

"Teito."

The boy, however, raised his chin as he watched the man with hooded, crimson eyes. He canted his head to the side and shot the person before him a scathing look.

"Zehel. Did I not tell you last time to protect my Master with all your power in my place?"

He didn't wait for an answer - he simply tossed the bundle of boots and military uniform at the 'man' before continuing, his tone calm, conversationally haughty. "Your failure brought this upon him - that those that dared toy with my master...and now this? Dare I trust my Beloved into your care again, Zehel?"

Oh. Great. Mikhail. If Frau hadn't been so desperate to know if Teito was alright, he would have gotten pissed off with the archangel. They hadn't exactly gotten along on any of the occasions they'd met. Pain in the ass that did things to his own liking.

Mikhail's rant that all of this was his fault was enough to bring the vein in Frau's forehead up. He was about to snap off a few choice words when the pile of clothes landed at his feet. Only they didn't make sense. Teito had never worn a military uniform after he'd come to the church. Why would he have one now?

"What the hell are you talking about? And why do you have those?"

"Knowest you not what your carelessness hath wrought?"

The Archangel shot the man a disbelieving look before glancing around the diamond once again. He frowned, then lifted a hand to rest his forehead against his fingertips and laughed.

"He is not here and yet this place... Ah... I see." Crimson eyes cut back up to the blond as he smiled. There was no real mirth in the curve of his lips as he continued smoothly, "Prove thee a better Guardian for my Beloved Master here, Zehel, and pray your memory recovers before his. For I'll warn thee now... he has no memory of thee."

A blink before crimson eyes flickered to verdant and the young man started to list to the side, unconscious.

Frau would have been completely willing to bear the weight of Teito's death if that was the product of his being dragged here. While Teito hadn't died, it seemed like he had suffered. Mikhail wouldn't lie about something like that. Frau would bear that burden too. Only...

"My memory? What the hell are you..."

He couldn't even finish the sentence before Mikhail dropped his control and Teito started falling. Frau shot forward, catching the boy lightly in his arms.

"Dammit, Mikhail."

As Frau cradled Teito in one arm, he gently brushed back the boy's hair with the other hand. Since Teito wasn't awake, Frau could actually allow himself that moment to gather his thoughts and emotions. He could allow himself that brief outward moment of peace. Once he'd gathered himself, Frau stood, Teito still in his arms, and headed back toward his apartment.

Waking up on a soft bed when he'd fallen asleep on an examination table was more than a little bit disorienting. His dream, or what he could remember of it was odd - fragmented - falling snow and Mikage's laugh... but when he reached out, there had been... nothing.

No one there, no light to fold his hand around, to grasp tight.

Thus, when he woke, it was with a jolt as he bolted upright, his best friend's name a shout falling from his lips as he glanced around wildly, uncomprehending for only a moment before he caught sight of the blond man sitting near him - definitely not a member of the military by the looks of him.

Thought gave way to action and before he could even voice his confusion, he was throwing the blanket towards the man's head as he lept out of the bed towards the door.

Why was this so familiar? Probably because it had happened before, only complete with a punch. Frau was actually rather grateful the punch hadn't been included in the package this time even if he did deserve it. Just brushing a blanket aside was so much easier.

And it gave him the perfect opportunity to just grab Teito around the waist and toss him over his shoulder. There was no way, absolutely none, that Teito was going to disappear on him. No, Frau was going to watch him constantly.

"Where the hell do you think you're going, damn brat?"

"Hey that's my line!"

Teito glared, rather uselessly at the black-clad back before him and slammed a fist in just the right spot for a good kidney shot. Whereever this place was, it was clear that it wasn't anywhere within the Kapital - which mean somehow someone had taken him from his examination.

Not to mention, with as bright as the day was, he was definitely late for work.

For now, however, he had to deal with this idiot kidnapper. Honestly! Who the hell was stupid enough to try to take the Chief of Staff's Begleiter? Whatever the reason, it didn't matter - it was his duty to get away and get back to Ayanami's side before he inconvenienced his superior further. "Who the hell are you and wadda you want? I can tell you right now - you're better off letting me go now before the Major or someone finds you!"

Just a distraction as he called forth a burst of zaiphon and winged it at the man's knees.

So the punch was just a late delivery. Perfect. Frau growled and nearly dropped Teito when the punch hit. It hurt like hell, but Frau was used to it. Plus, Teito had already run away once. There was no way Frau would let him go over a little punch.

The last time Teito had attacked him with zaiphon, Frau had easily managed to evade all of the blows without moving more than a few inches. Since he was holding Teito, that wasn't as easy this time. Instead of shifting out of the way, Frau called up his own zaiphon, flicking it out to counter Teito's with little effort.

"I'm not letting you go, you damn nuisance! Every time I let you out of my sight for a second you disappear and end up in trouble!"

Mistaken identity, perhaps? That or this man didn't have a very good grasp on reality because such a simple line wasn't going to work on him.

"I've never met you before in my life! You sure as hell weren't ever at the Academy and I've memorized all of the staff profiles that work for the Black Hawks! You're not one of us!"

That said, he focused another attack, this one aimed higher - right at the back of the blond's head.

Teito's attack hit Frau dead on, and he dropped the kid. The pain of Teito's zaiphon was nothing compared to the pain Frau was feeling from his apprentice's previous words. Never met him before? That wasn't possible. Teito couldn't have forgotten everything. Not after all of the things they'd endured together.

I'll warn thee now... he has no memory of thee.

Is this what Mikhail had been talking about? Teito had really forgotten everything. Frau's stomach twisted and the flare of hope and peace he'd had hours ago was wrench viciously away from him. Somehow he was going to have to reach Teito all over again.

This time Frau didn't get angry. He simply rubbed at the back of his head, eyes downcast. It only lasted a moment though. When he looked back up, his eyes were flashing with irritation.

"You're not one of them you stupid apprentice!"

Teito winced as he hit the ground, right on his tailbone, but jumped right up to glare up at the man - totally unfazed by the obvious irritation. Instead, he held his ground as he shook his head and tried again because if this man thought he was his apprentice, then his initial assessment of the situation could have been off just a bit.

Possibly.

That or it was a ploy to get him to lower his guard.

So this time, he glared rather dubiously up at the man and tried a different tact. "Look, I hate to tell you, but you're mistaken. My name is Teito Klein, Begleiter to Chief of Staff Ayanami of the Imperial Army so there's no way I could be your missing apprentice. You've got the wrong person."

If Frau's jaw could have hit the floor, it would have. Frau could only gape at Teito in stunned disbelief. This had to be some kind of sick joke. Seriously sick considering who Teito believed he was. And it had to be his fault too. When he'd been dragged here it had left Teito alone. That bastard Ayanami had to have gotten a hold of the kid. There was no other explanation.

All Frau wanted to do just then was get sick and curl back up in his coffin with the lid placed firmly on top. Maybe then it would all go away. But he couldn't. In his head Frau could only ask himself what Ayanami had done to his apprentice. Aloud it was a much different story.

"You want to kill the chief of staff! You're on the run from the military! I don't know what that bastard did to your head, but I'm going to find a way to undo it even if I have to beat sense into you."

Just this look, right here, before he took a step back, towards his uniform.

"Um...Look," Teito paused and placed a hand to his chest, tapped it once as if to emphasize his point. "I'm sorry you've lost your apprentice, I really am. But I graduated at the top of my class and have been the Chief of Staff's Begleiter ever since. Don't think you can use my memory problems against me like this - Major Hyuuga has already told me that it's the result of a mission accident."

He shook his head then turned to go, one hand already reaching for his uniform. He hesitated before he glanced back and added quietly, "I have to report in, but I hope you find your apprentice soon."
