[He was fine, he'd said. (He was lying.) Blown her off. She didn't expect any differently from any man, let alone him, but she wasn't about to leave things like that. No.]
[The fact that he was physically well enough to blow her off was a huge relief to her, even though she'd done her best not to worry, but that wasn't all that was going on here. Maya had no details on the relationship between him and Livio; he'd barely said a word about the other man (which meant he was someone important, probably), unlike that other guy from his world. But the fact that he'd blown her (and the orphanage, from the sounds of it) off was a huge indication something was wrong, and she wasn't about to let him deal with this - whatever it was - on his own.]
[She wouldn't rest (not that she really rested, these days) 'till she found him, no matter how long that took, no matter where she had to look.]

[near impossible, though. Razlo had strung him up five ways from Sunday, and not just in a shot-up manner. he'd be itchy enough that he wouldn't run from Maya -- in fact, probably wouldn't even notice her until she spoke or got in his vision.]
[and right then, his vision was mostly for his matchbox, brand new (cheap cheap brand) cigarette caught in his teeth.]
[it wouldn't help his nerves any, he knew, but it was routine enough to be ... comforting.]

[She padded closer, until she was a few feet away (smoking, again. Of course. ... But even that habit of his was a bit of a comfort to her; he would almost look like normal, if it wasn't for the suit.)]
Mr. Wolfwood...?
[The expression on her face was more relieved than worried as her sandals flapped against the sidewalk to bring her one or two steps forward (still enough distance not to make him uncomfortable, hopefully), but she gave him another once-over just to make sure there wasn't an injury she'd missed.]
