Lucky Rin wasn't at work when the new tenant arrived. She was at the kitchen table working on homework instead, but had the presence of mind to look up and smile somewhat, pushing her chair back and leaving her book with a mechanical pencil resting in the dip at the spine.

"Hi there."

The first thing Evangeline thought when seeing Rin was that she must have adjusted pretty well. She was dressed in modern clothing, working on... homework? Was there a functioning school system here? Or was it something else?

Still, it was good to see her again. Even if she wasn't quite the same.

Evangeline tried to smooth her expression, walking over and propping her bag upright. "Are you the one in charge of this place?"

Rin watched the young girl closely. She recognized the voice, and felt pretty hesitant about being overtly friendly towards this... girl, apparently, who'd made such dramatic declarations of villainy over the network.

But still, manners were manners, and she was running the place, as Eva suspected. "That's right. Is that all you have?" Said with a nod towards the luggage.

The lack of real recognition still cut into Evangeline, even though she expected it. The way Rin saw her was as a stranger moving in: a stranger who declared herself a villain, not that Evangeline would consider taking that back. They had once been friends, somebody that Rin could trust for advice and assistance. That was simply gone.

But the vampire had seen more in her lifetime than people forgetting people, and she would simply work to reestablish what they once had.

Giving a smile, though one would hardly call it a kind one, she replied. "All that's worth taking."

Politeness was always a serviceable shield. Rin in Paradisa had used it as a defense just as much as the Rin here did; there was something for Evangeline to recognize.

Not that Rin was so very different, one world to another. She had just adapted to varying pressures put upon her.

"All right." Rin nodded, refraining from picking up the luggage herself - Evangeline had manged to bring it here on her own, after all. "Well, I'll show you your room. Girls are on one floor, boys the other, and there's a bathroom to each floor that we all share."

A half-day free from work commitments would likely give anybody else a sense of relief and relaxation, but for Chane, she felt compelled to find something to do still, even in her free time. The morning had been spent grocery shopping, the list Rin had left tacked up on the refrigerator neatly clipped and dutifully followed item-by-item, the load she now carried in two shopping bags ( ... )

Seeing how Shizuo had Saturdays and Sundays off, it was no surprise that he was in the boarding house. While he was scarce during the week, he could almost always be found at home on the weekends -- unless he had plans, of course. With the weather getting colder day by day, though, it became more and more tempting to stay in.

He was hardly ever bothered while in his room. Maybe his housemates had learned, or maybe Rin had explained to the others that he needed privacy. It wasn't even Rin who he'd explained his anger problem to when first coming here. That had been Minako, but...

Either way, he emerged eventually, mainly because he'd gotten hungry. On his way down the stairs, though, he heard a series of voices, one which was familiar and the other which definitely wasn't. He paused for a moment, but in the end he did need to eat sooner or later. Surely Rin would be able to explain. As he continued on, the first person he saw was Chane. They hadn't interacted much, but the girl was silent -- as mute as Celty, actually. That had made ( ... )

Evangeline's senses hadn't dulled since her arrival, and the appearances of such rude eavesdroppers wasn't a surprise. She could sense their approach since before they even knew she was there. Still, she paid them no mind yet. Rin came first, and anybody else who might live there came in a distant second.

"That's fine," she replied, putting a hand back on her luggage's handle. "Show me the way, the rest... shouldn't be difficult. Boys on the other floor, and the kitchen on the first." She let herself crack a smile, telling an inside joke that Rin wouldn't even get.

Rin lead the way to the door without further ado, and blinked at Chane and Shizuo waiting at the door. It didn't take a moment for her polite smile to warm into a more open one. These were two residents that she felt pretty comfortable with, and she stepped aside to make nice and do introductions with everyone face to face.

"Shizuo, Chane, this is Evangeline. She's just moving in." She made small gestures between them all to indicate who was who. "Evangeline, this is Shizuo, he's been here a while now. And this is Chane, she's still a bit new..." There Rin stalled, wondering if it was politic to mention the girl was mute or not. It seemed a bit baldfaced to just say it outright with Chane right there.

The soft creak of the stairs behind her did not dissuade her from her position at all-- by now she was somewhat accustomed to the presence of the other residents, even if she had not encountered them before, almost going far enough to say comfortable with them around her. As Shizuo offered her a nod she returned the greeting immediately, eyes lingering on him for a moment. He almost seemed familiar. Rin's opening the door made her start slightly from her observation, grocery bags rustling as she turned to face her.

Gaze momentarily following Rin, Chane processed the pause in her introduction as nervousness over how to introduce somebody new. She watched Evangeline (she seemed... young) for a sign of reaction, then inclined her head gently. It seemed like little more than an acknowledgement but with her NV tucked away with the shopping, it would serve as greeting for the time being.

Luckily, Rin was quick to jump in and take care of introductions. She probably realized that that was the easiest way to handle things, seeing how he wasn't good at talking and Chane couldn't. Still, Shizuo took that as his cue to step forward and nod to the new girl. "It's nice to meet you, Evangeline." He didn't know if that was actually true, but it was the right thing to say in this case -- and more than that, he doubted Rin would have invited anyone bad to live here.

He knew not to judge by appearances, but Evangeline was also rather young. She hardly struck him as the sort of person who was going to cause trouble. Either way, he'd done his part and filled the silence that Chane wouldn't be able to, so that was something.

Taking note of the girl's suitcase, he figured there was one way in which he could be helpful, if she wanted. "I can carry that up for you," he offered with a shrug, trying to make it clear that it was no big deal either way.

Poor fools didn't realize who they were dealing with. For Evangeline, that usually sparked a tirade on just how evil she was thinly veiled as an introduction. But while she would never purposely hide who or what she was, she could at least cut back on that sort of bragging. The things she put up with for Rin...

She nodded to Chane and Shizuo in turn. "I'll take you up on that offer," she said to the blond man, offering him the handle to her rolling suitcase. She was certainly more than capable of doing it herself, but she wouldn't if she didn't have to. Still, while she was polite enough on the surface, she was also curt and didn't even offer him thanks.

"So where is this room?"

"Girls are on the third floor." Rin smiled at Shizuo in lieu of Eva thanking him, and threw a kind look towards Chane in for good measure. The stairs weren't far from the kitchen; really, nothing was far from anything else in the boarding house, regardless of how many people they managed to fit in there (and occasionally with more than one person to a room).

Rin led the way, anyway, taking the stairs quickly and passing the second landing without a glance. Eva's room was just down the hall from the stairwell, and looked just like all the others had before the occupants had personalized them. There were clean linens folded up on the bed, and a slightly threadbare quilt to go over them. If Eva preferred something else, she would have to find it herself.

Chane returned the look, more inquisitive perhaps, but with no time to form a real question before Rin accompanied their new housemate upstairs, she went ahead to the kitchen alone. Footsteps on the floor above sounded down quietly-- it was easy enough to tell where the three were headed, even for somebody who had recently moved in.

She listened closely as she unpacked the groceries. Maybe, Evangeline's room would be near to hers. There was a slight air of previous knowledge between the two when she first heard them; maybe she and Rin were friends. And Rin, showing people around and helping them settle in-- was a very good person to be friends with, she thought. And a good host.

The groceries all stored away, Chane cleaned out the teapot and began brewing a pot of tea. It was least she could do to welcome in the new housemate.

When he was given the go ahead, Shizuo easily picked up the small suitcase, hefting it onto his shoulder for ease of carrying. It was clear that the small briefcase could have just as easily been something as light as a notebook to him. He quietly followed after Rin, not seeming to care whether or not the newest arrival was thankful for the favor. He was doing this for Rin more than for Evangeline, after all.

It seemed that Chane wasn't going to follow them, but there was probably no reason for her to come up with them when she had nothing to carry -- plus, she'd had some groceries to put away, right?

The trip to the third floor was fast, and when they reached Evangeline's room Shizuo moved in and set the case down near the bed. "There you go."

"This place could use a little work," Eva said dryly. Still, it would certainly work. It was hardly unlivable, even if it did pale in comparison to a magic castle. The room was smaller than she was used to - even smaller than her accommodations back in the junior high school, really - but then, the apartment she had gotten when she first arrived was even worse. "But I suppose it will do for now."

One of her first goals would be to redecorate this room. It needed a darker atmosphere, some new furniture (especially that bed - it needed to go,) and something cute, for good measure. She supposed she could glamour some decor, but she could hardly construct a better bed out of illusion. This was going to require either hard work, or an easy way to make money.

....Maybe she was getting ahead of herself.

"Thanks," she said curtly, to Shizuo. She gave him a small nod as well. That was... much more than anybody should expect from a villain, really. He was lucky to receive so much, though she doubted he would realize it.
