Parting is all we know of heaven,

Sep 13, 2011 00:15

Who: Elaine Belloc and YOU.
When: After Lucifer left. All day and the next.
Where: The Lux and everywhere on the island (just clarify where).
Summary: The farewell, the encore.
Warnings: None. Come cheer up a God?

He's gone. Elaine knows this from the very instant Lucifer fades from the island. She knows how the Port feels less heavy with his presence and a little duller for it. It's like the abrasive warmth of the sun -- of all suns -- has set in a dusk that will never end. She feels cold.

She closes her eyes and opens them again and Elaine finds herself standing on the rooftop of the Lux, preserving the last traces of his Name before they fade with him too. She has inherited this too. It's becoming a familiar commodity to take what her family have left behind for her to look after. She has never run a nightclub before or even played the piano, but she doesn't think it'll be harder than learning how to be God.

She feels the sorrow intensifying, but she fights against it with the numbness of resignation. She makes the depth of her upset and loneliness an echo. No dark clouds will form above her head, no rain will shake the city because of her family drama. She'll endure it in silence. Because Elaine Belloc knows that her uncle is happier his way and -- in her own way -- she's relieved for this. She has now one less reason to tempt her to linger.
