Summary: An 5.0 earthquake shakes things up, and the city hurries to get everything back in order before nightfall.
Warnings: Natural Disasters? Everything that needs a warning should go in individual subject lines
This is a moderate quake, but just strong enough to shake things up. Expect rattling dishes, trees shaking. Most people indoors will feel movement. Hanging objects swing. Dishes, windows, and doors rattle, or may swing open or shut.
The earthquake feels like a heavy truck hitting the walls. Parked cars rock. Most sleepers will awake, as almost everyone feels movement. Pictures on the wall move, and small may shift or fall over. Plaster in older or cheaply built walls or windowframes might crack, causing minor structural damage to the poorer sectors. It won't be a fun night, and a long and hurried workday of inspection and repairs, if you're living in the slums.
Some things to keep in mind:
* Electrical power will be out in Sectors 10, 9, 8, and upper parts of Sector 4 until noon. People are dumb, with traffic lights out and aftershocks still trembling now and then, so expect some car accidents on the roadways.
* The subway system will be delayed for half an hour after the quake, after which service to stops 1-23 will resume, with stations 24-31 returning to service by nightfall.
* The Underground Mall's motels will be all booked up by mid-afternoon, as smart residents decide to "play it safe" with minor structural damages to their homes. Expect a crowded mall tonight, with the UMCA boasting their safe and soundness.
* Some windows WILL shatter or fall out of their shifting frames at the Tower Apartments.
* The city Hospitals will be busy today with minor injuries from falling things, but filled to capacity tomorrow with people who thought their house's darkness proofing was in fine shape...but a bit seeped in, and they barely survived the darkness.
* Animals will be restless and agitated for the duration of the day, and monsters will be extremely aggressive tonight.
* There will be a strange bubbling during the quake at Versaid Lake.
* If you're watching the baseball diamond carefully during the quake, some of the rotting wood on the old bleachers will fall apart in the quake, and a strange, hazy cloud of dust debris will settle over the infield. It almost looks like pollen. The security building remains standing.
