He had known- of course he had known- that he was being followed for the past few weeks. And he had known who he was. There was the possibility of confronting Sherlock, but Bruce would rather wait- and really, if he really needed to, it was easy enough to throw off the other man. Detective or not, he was still a civilian, and if Batman couldn't throw a single civilian off his trail, he wouldn't be of much use, would he ( ... )

Civilian as Sherlock might be, he was still no ordinary man, and he certainly didn't have intentions of starting to be one now. Batman did manage to shake him, but in different areas along his patrol route. Sherlock had the Port mapped out in his head nearly as well as London now, and by keeping track of when and where he saw Batman on which nights, adding a certain level of precision to his hunting ( ... )

It hadn't taken much effort from Sherlock to coax John into joining him this evening. Dealing with the injuries that people acquired in the darkness at Skye Medical had managed to keep him busy enough, but he was beginning to miss the sensation of being in the thick of it for himself -- danger was just another synonym for excitement to John.

And watching his friend trail after The Batman night after night without any back-up had made the good doctor uneasy and he was relieved to join him this time around. Although he couldn't help but feel slightly embarrassed as he stood at the side and looked back and forth between the two detectives as they barbed one another and kept his hands tucked into his jacket.

The presence of the doctor, and his silence, made Bruce glance over to him for a moment. He cocked his head to the side, as if inviting him to speak- because he had a good idea that John Watson knew who he was. Knew in the same way that Chuck Shurley knew. And it amused him, that here was a man with the answers Sherlock wanted, and yet Sherlock would chase him down doggedly and find it himself anyway.

Then again, without proof, Bruce would do the same. It was half the thrill of the challenge, and half simply fun.

He swept across the alley, standing a little too close to Sherlock for comfort, moving so fast that he appeared to have teleported, if either of the men in front of him weren't paying much attention. Bruce folded his arms.

"Are wild goose chases a particular joy of yours?" he was circling around the topic, barely brushing it, with his gaze solid and heavy on John.

These were the sorts of things Bruce and Sherlock had frightfully in common, yet they refused to acknowledge it. When Batman was looming so close to him like the night he broke into Sherlock's flat, the detective still didn't bat an eyelid. Of course, Sherlock had been watching with his eagle eyes. He knew the grappling tricks by now, if not from the tracking, then from Carrie.

While Batman's stance was stern, Sherlock looked flippant as always, hands in his pockets. There was no evident change in this demeanor, not even when he noticed Batman staring at John. His eyes flickered in his friend's direction. Sherlock doubted it was too great of a possibility, but if Batman tried to hurt John, his nonchalance would vanish and this night would not go as planned at all.

"Not a wild goose chase if the prey comes to you, really," he replied calmly. "Though I can't speak for Dr. Watson here."
