Civilian as Sherlock might be, he was still no ordinary man, and he certainly didn't have intentions of starting to be one now. Batman did manage to shake him, but in different areas along his patrol route. Sherlock had the Port mapped out in his head nearly as well as London now, and by keeping track of when and where he saw Batman on which nights, adding a certain level of precision to his hunting.

The main goal was to get Batman within an observable distance. Questioning was well and good, but being able to look through a person was far better. There was also the matter of finding out if the Bat's injuries matched Bruce Wayne's.

When Sherlock heard the gravelly voice, he stopped in his tracks, a slightly triumphant smile on his lips. There didn't seem to be a great deal of danger on the street he and John were walking along just yet. Good.

"Be fair. It's been a bit more active than skulking. I'll leave that for your asylum friends to take care of."

Of course Batman would notice. It was all a matter, though, of underplaying one's abilities.
