I was walking with a ghost--

Jul 26, 2011 05:23

Who: atrumcanis & possiblycantdie.
When: the Darkness of Monday, July 25th
Where: the streets of Siren's Port.
Summary: Some people meet by chance in cafes, and some people meet by chance in bookshops, and some people meet by chance while out killing monsters after hours. This is a example of the latter.
Warnings: Monsters, man.

[Sirius hadn't marked his anniversary of arrival with anything. It had been ages ago, but the thought hadn't occurred to him until significantly later, when it was far too late for any commemoration. Not that he would want to commemorate it.

Nor would he commemorate Remus' disappearance. Jack's arrival, perhaps--but all of these anniversaries slipped his mind, unless he was specifically concentrating on remembering them. Which he generally forgot to do. There were enough thoughts to occupy his time without adding generally pointless sentimentality on top of them.

Sometimes they occurred to him, unbidden, at the strangest times--and here was one of them. Killing monsters was a sport that never got old, but it was so routine by now that it was almost easy to become distracted. Which was how he came to be here--halfway down an alley with some ugly lurching thing in front of him, its tongue wrapped firmly around his wrist. Fortunately, it wasn't his wand arm, and Sirius struggled to free his arm, even as he aimed his wand at the thing.]

Diffindo!

[It lacked panache, certainly, and it came out slightly panicked--but it did the trick. The creature fell back with a howl, its tongue severed in half, and Sirius shook at his arm quickly, sloughing off the remainder of the tongue. It was fortunate that no one was around to see just how disdainfully--and girlishly--he reacted to that disgusting leftover.]
