In seven years, Franziska von Karma had preceded over many a trying case; however, none other had given her such a headache quite this early in this day - she had not even delivered her opening statement yet and already her patience was wearing thinner than usual. At least this case would be relatively straight forward; with both the defendant being someone who was so easy to despise due to the nature of her crimes (this perception, Franziska had every intention of encouraging), and the involvement of the jury, it was impossible for said defendant to walk free; despite all these nuisances, the trial would be perfect, in typical von Karma fashion.

Lip curling slightly, Franziska’s gaze first travelled over the AGI lawyers who were working alongside her - it annoyed her that she couldn’t entirely tell what they were here for; it was an important case, certainly, but she was capable of handling it, so what did they want -- and then she moved on, skimming over the jury; she would remember those twelve people, those faces, the ones she ( ... )

Earl Ciel Phantomhive was to be Franziska's first witness in this trial; it was still decidedly odd, she decided, to have to speak to someone she had started to grow fond of in this sort of situation, in what had always, in the past, been a professional environment. Yet, as a witness he would serve his role well; his age certainly would help convince the jury of the point she was making while not serving to be a detriment in any other way; he was mature enough to handle this, she reassured herself -- people always had a habit of underestimating children, and she knew better than to make that mistake. She was, after all, the Prodigy, who had become a prosecuting attorney at thirteen years of age.

"The prosecution calls Earl Ciel Phantomhive to the stand."

He'd made sure to dress appropriately for the occasion, not that he was ever under dressed to begin with as Ciel sat beside Alois, waiting to be called to the stand to give his testimony. He'd never been in a courthouse before, thus it was a completely new experience for the young boy as he sat quietly.

When he was called he stood up, straight and poised as he moved to take the stand, ready to testify.

While witnesses were usually sequestered before the trial, it had not been feasible to do so to these two boys, as they lived, and, indeed, had been kidnapped together. Franziska's gaze as Ciel took the stand was not focused on him, but instead, the jury, looking to see their reactions; it was important that she had them thinking what she wanted right from the very beginning of this case to its inevitable conclusion.

"Please state your name and age for the court."

This morning's first witness was the cynical man who had responded to the network broadcast had made when she had first been assigned to this case. After the occurrences of the day prior, Franziska was certain that she had enough convincing witnesses lined up for the day to ensure that the leader of the despicable cult received a guilty verdict. It would be interesting to see his conduct in person and compare it with what she recalled from the network.

"The prosecution calls this morning's first witness to the stand."

Cynical was probably the most capable way to describe Liquid, when you didn't know much about him. 'Grumpy' was a little better right now. Being here was bad enough, but the fact he had to wear a shirt - he'd called ahead and checked - was far worse. Pure and utter discomfort. Why he couldn't just have worn his coat was- well, alright, letting a terrorist into your court with a long black coat buttoned up was asking for trouble. It didn't mean he'd have to be graceful about it.

Coolly, he vaulted up onto the stand - literally - and waited, shifting awkwardly.

She scrutinized the man for a moment before speaking; he seemed nervous -- perhaps it was his very first time in the courtroom? For Franziska personally, such a milestone had seemed like another lifetime ago, and it almost was -- a world away, so to speak -- but in the end, this was nothing she couldn't deal with; nervous witnesses were part of her profession, after all.

"The witness will state his name and age for the court."
