There were any number of reasons to be out after sirens. At least for Susan, there were mysterious deaths to investigate, stupid teenage kids to corral and send back to their parents and plenty of other things to keep her occupied, but the long and the short of it was simple. Susan was out there to kill. She felt horrible about the things she said Harry, but what else could she do? It was just better breaking it off completely. It was why she cut off ties to Chicago, it was why she never went home. Well, not the only reason, but let's face it. Thinking about Maggie was the last thing she needed to do right now, especially when she was in this mood.
Looking around, she paused as she walked down the darkened streets, waiting for something to come out. Something she could rip apart.
The sound of a crying child was the last thing she expected and the one thing she couldn't ignore. Moving quickly, she ran through the streets, looking for the source and when she saw the small figure huddled in the dark alley, she reached out a hand as it slowly turned.
"Sweetie, hon, we need to get you in...side..."
"
Mommy?"
Shit. That was not a child.
