Riku was out on his own, as usual, feeling more at ease since the week of the eclipse. With so much darkness out of his system, he felt like he could finally breathe and focus on his own control. He kept himself always so carefully balanced that the last week had him feeling all out of sorts. And even with Edgeworth's encouragement, he still felt that with recent arrivals...it was still his job to keep getting stronger.

He'd never beat Xehanort if he never practiced, or if he never challenged himself.

He's learning, bit by bit, how to control the darkness in the monsters just as the others know how to control the darkness in people's hearts. He's put his all into learning this at the very least, not to control others, but simply to counteract any manipulation Xehanort may use against him. The monsters were wary now. They should be.

Riku heard the sound of the motor before he saw it, and his senses were assailed by darkness and that familiar scent of poison, something murky and downright acidic. He knew that smell very well. He ( ... )

He was not expecting the...thing to rise around him. A trap? Something else? The Remnant reared Velvet Nightmare back slightly to that. But he does not have to wait long to find out just who it was, a flash of similar silver hair catching his attention. But without the connection, so it had to be...

"Hn." One of the similar ones.

Yazoo does not idle in the darkness for long. Leveling Velvet Nightmare and firing a few times before knocking down the kickstand of his bike and dismounting, finally jumping into the fray properly. He did not have the same connection with Riku as he had with Kadaj, but with a little effort he was able to keep his shots on one side of other, to sidestep and weave though the monsters with fast footwork before defending himself with the barrel of his gunblade.

Darkness calls to darkness, perhaps - Yazoo was only just above being one and the same with those monsters.

He lowered the shield once the monster had been brushed abck by the force of the shield, following up with an angry blast of darkness to destroy it. Twirling the blade in his hand, he slid into stance and rushed forward, the shots from Velvet Nightmare following in his wake. He kept his eyes on the creatures threatening to attack them, but he cast his senses wide to take in everything Yazoo was doing. Experience taught him to always keep his eyes on the Remnant behind him, and while he would turn his back, he wouldn't leave his guard open ( ... )

They work together better than he expected, or perhaps Yazoo is just used to working around others to get to a common goal. Fencing in Kadaj like a bull chute to keep him from going off, needling Loz into action and for reaction as needed, and now observing and adjusting to how Riku fights to rid themselves of the mass of monsters before them ( ... )
